Penwith Social Prescribers

Penwith Social Prescribers West Penwith Social Prescribing Link Workers – here to share info, ideas, and inspiration to support your health and wellbeing.

Hello and welcome to our page! We are Social Prescribing Link Workers based at GP surgeries in West Penwith: Sunnyside Surgery, Atlantic Medical Group, Cape Cornwall Surgery and Newlyn Surgery, Rosmellyn Surgery, Morrab Surgery and Marazion Surgery. Social prescribing is a way to link you with non-clinical activities within your community. We recognise that your health and wellbeing can b

e improved by complementing other areas of your life, and this is what a e Social Prescribing Link Worker can help you with. We can share information with you, about a range of advice and support services in your community, to help you work towards one or two goals. As an outcome you might find that you make new friends, get more exercise, sort out a debt, join a new group, and more. We can encourage you to give new things a go and get more connected to your community. Please contact your GP and ask for a referral to social prescribing.

💬 Missed appointments - why they matter

We understand that life can be busy and things come up. If you can’t make a Social Prescribing appointment, that’s absolutely okay but please let us know as soon as you can.

When appointments are missed without notice, it means that time can’t be offered to someone else who may be waiting for support.
This can have a real impact on how long people wait before they can speak with us.

💛 If you need to cancel or rearrange, please contact your social prescriber or GP surgery
📞 Even a quick call or email can make a big difference
🤝 It helps us offer support to as many people in the community as possible

We’re here to support everyone we can - thank you for helping us do that 😊

💙 Diabetes Stigma - It's More Complicated Than People Think 💙

One of the biggest misconceptions about diabetes is that blood glucose levels are controlled simply by "eating the right things" or "taking insulin."

In reality, many factors can affect blood glucose levels, often in ways that are completely outside a person's control.

📈 Stress and anxiety
🤒 Illness and infection
🌙 Poor sleep
🏃 Exercise (or lack of it)
☀️ Hot weather
❄️ Cold weather
💊 Medications
🩸 Hormonal changes
🚗 Travel and changes in routine
😟 Excitement, worry, or emotional upset

Someone living with diabetes may do exactly the same thing on two different days and get completely different results.

That's why comments such as "What have you done wrong?" or "You shouldn't be high if you're managing it properly" can be hurtful and unfair.

Managing diabetes requires constant decision-making, problem-solving and resilience. Instead of judging, let's choose understanding.

Every blood glucose reading is information - not a measure of success or failure.
