A year ago today the local community came together at Trevor Terrace to welcome a new mural; another wall transformed as the Elevation Mural Festival turned our town into an outdoor gallery.

North Shields No.4, by North Shields artist, Anthony Downie, is a wonderful celebration of our town’s beloved back lanes.

As Anthony, his family and other local residents gathered to have their photos taken in front of the new mural, there was such a strong sense of community pride. Since then the mural has continued to raise a smile - it’s lovely to see it emerging at the crossroads as you travel down Queen Alexandra Road.

It was exactly a year ago today that internationally acclaimed muralist, Nina Valkhoff, began work in Norfolk Street on the first artwork for the Elevation Mural Festival.

Over the following weeks - July to early October 2025 - the walls of North Shields were transformed into an outdoor gallery. The murals brought colour, excitement and pride to the town, creating a lasting legacy of the North Shields 800 celebrations.

These “Walk and Talk” events are designed to bring together business people for conversations and networking in a relaxed setting, with some fresh air and local culture thrown in.

It was great to be able to show off the Elevation Mural Trail and other North Shields artworks to such an interested and enthusiastic group.

Thanks to the Bait Box too for a much needed and delicious coffee at the mid-point of the walk!
