Part 1 photos - camp life and activities

The Explorers and Scouts from 3rd Cheam Scout Group have just returned from summer camp.

Everyone, including the leaders, enjoyed four fantastic days at Woodhouse Park Activity Centre near Bristol.

The Explorers and Scouts all threw themselves into camp life, making new friends, learning new skills, challenging themselves on the arial trek, taking part in fencing duels, and enjoying a day out at Cheddar Gorge.

All the young people were a pleasure to take away and well behaved, especially on the mammoth 7 hour journey home.

A big thank you to Leslie Button and Mark Sherry for coming to camp at short notice to allow it to happen.

As it is Jamboree season and two leaders are volunteering at an International Jamboree as IST. For the last meeting before the summer break the Explorers were challenged to design an entrance gate for a campsite. In teams, they used newspaper to build their gateways.

A few favourite games were played before closing the the evening with our annual awards. Congratulations to our outstanding Explorer of the Year – a well-deserved recognition for an exceptional Explorer.

Have a lovely summer everyone, see you in September. We can't wait to see what adventures next year brings!

The Explorers had a choice for Tuesday's meeting! They could either go to the Sutton Distict Explorer BBQ or head over to Horse Guards Parade for a spectacular military musical performance.

Those that chose the BBQ enjoyed a burger and had the chance to climb the County climbing wall or cross an elevated rope bridge. πŸ”

Those who chose the musical event were treated to live music from amazing bands, including the Royal Horse Guards Band, the Swiss Drummers, tje Ghurkas and many more. It was a brilliant evening of music and entertainment. 🎢 πŸ’‚πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈπŸŽΊπŸ₯

One of our Explorers was lucky to get a place on the very popular Sutton District Sailing weekend sailing the Solent with The Discovery Sailing Project. It was a great weekend with fantastic weather learing how to sail, developing teamwork and gaining time on the water, nautical skills and nights away badges.

Thank you to all the leaders for organising such a great opportunity for the Scouts and Explorers across Sutton.

Well done to the six Aviators that completed their Bronze DofE qualifying expedition at the weekend.

They conquered the Ashdown Forest in the heatwave after completing training and route planning over a number of months.

Tuesday's meeting was a hot one, so we let the Explorers loose with water! 🌊

We put their teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test with a few challenges. It's safe to say they definitely solved the problem of staying cool... by getting soaked! πŸ˜„

Most importantly, everyone had a fantastic time and plenty of laughs.

Tuesday was National Fudge Day so the Explorers made fudge and did a quick fudge fact quiz.

There was chocolate, marshmallow and honeycomb, it was all very tasty.

Fudge Day, officially celebrated annually on June 16, encourages people to indulge in the dense, creamy confection. It commemorates the creation of fudge, which is widely believed to have originated in the 1880s as a "fudged" (ruined) batch of caramel that turned into a happy accident.
