As Epsom Derby day approaching the Explorers had a horse racing evening. 🐎

Teams competed in Horse racing challenges and made predictions on each race.

On the racing there was a clear winner, but each team was level on the predictions.

The evening was finished with an impromptu game of catching with a Nerf dart.

This week the Explorers made wooden animals for Friends of Cheam Park's stall at the Cheam Charter Fair.

They made a hedgehog, a pig, bears and owls from discs cut from logs. Some chose to paint pictures on the discs.

On Tuesday the Explorers did a bit of quatermastering. They put up 4 tents that had been bought from the community recycling centre. They checked everything was there and all in good condition. Aviators have gained 3 complete, virtually new tents for between £5 -£10 each and one very serviceable tent.

This was followed by a favourite game of Frisbee dodgeball.

A few Expolrers had a great bank holiday weekend away at Lees Wood Scout Campsite with the Scouts from 3rd Cheam.

A brilliant group of young people that worked well together and got stuck into camp life and activities.

On Saturday, they went on a hike through Whippendale Woods to Cassiobury minature railway. They had lunch on the way beside a lock on the Grand Union Canal. A ride on the minature steam railway before heading back along the canal to camp. While walking along the canal, they helped a solo narrowboater with a lock.

Sunday was a day on site, starting with helping the site manage their woodland. The Explorers and Scouts removed the protection from growing new trees, removed new trees that didn't take and died, and sawed up fallen trees for the campsite woodpile. A great activity to help with the continuation of the woodland, maintain the beauty of the site as well as working towards the community section of their top awards. The afternoon was an activity time with archery and rifle shooting.

On Saturday, the leaders completed their 5k Inflatable Obstacle Course Run. They all had great fun in the sun and felt like big kids again on the obstacles.

Thank you to everyone that has sponsored us to raise funds for 3rd Cheam. Over £200 so far which is fantastic. The money is being used to buy games equipment for all sections to enjoy and replace some of the worn out camp cooking equipment. Purchased so far today are foam balls, a volleyball, soft archery, chopping boards and kitchen knives.

Well done and thank you to the Explorers that attended Sutton District St George's Day Parade and promise Renewal this morning. It was lovely to see so many young people and leaders our representing Scouting in the borough and honouring our patron Saint.
It was also an honour to have one of our Explorers in the Colour Party carrying the St George's flag at the head of the parade.

DAY 2
A good weekend narrowboating on the Grand Union Canal travelling on the Warwick and Napton Canal, Oxford Canal and Leicester Canal sections. Two full days of cruising covering 29 miles, 28 locks including a lock ladder and 4 miles of tunnels.

A lot of new experiences for the Explorers and leaders. The Explorers really got the hang of the locks and some really mastered the boat steering.

Well done, everyone, and thank you for a great trip. A special thank you to one of the Explorers that put their DofE Gold residential narrowboat qualification to good use, managing the boat and teaching others.
