3rd Cheam Scout group is based in the Cheam/Stonecot Hill area, Sutton, Surrey. 3rd Cheam Scout Group has three sections all for boys and girls from 6 to 14.

💊 Scouts learn about drugs and alcohol and their negative effects. 🍻

A part of their Skills Challenge Award the Scouts welcomed Hayden and Nabeel from Cranstoun a drugs and alcohol awareness charity. They learnt about the effects of drugs and alcohol and the impact they can have on your life.

The Scouts got hands-on with some special goggles that distorted their vision to simulate what it can be like to be drunk. It was a great way to experience how alcohol can affect coordination and perception!

They also took part in a quiz all about cannabis, testing their knowledge and learning some important facts along the way.

A big thank you to our visitors for an informative and thought-provoking evening!

The evening was finished with an investiture. Welcome to 3rd Cheam and the start of your Scouting journey.

Last night the Scouts were jamming - singing and making music? No! They were making jam with the sloes they picked last week.

They were amazed when they discovered just how much sugar goes into making jam!

A great evening of learning new skills and working together.

They all got to take home a sample of their jam and were very excited to try it. 🫐🫙

A great weekend with a fantastic group of Scouts on Falcon Adam Narrowboat.

They all had a relaxing time cruising the river Kennet and Kennet Avon canal while learning how to steer the narrowboat, operate locks and swing bridges. Fitting in time to make friendship bracelets and play games.

There was lots of wildlife to be seen Swans, Ducks, Moorhens, Red Kites, Kingfishers, Egrets, Willow Wablers, Dragonflies, Water Skaters, Crayfish and even an Adder swimming across the water.

Falcon Adam - Youth Narrowboat

Friday saw 8 Scouts head out to Aldermaston to start their narrowboat weekend on the Kennet and Avon canal. On Saturday we set off for Newbury going through 10 locks and 5 swing bridges.

Last night some of the Scouts went to Morden Park to pick sloe berries for making Jam next week. While others went on a narrowboat weekend, (see separate post).

Last night the Scouts made tin can lanterns.

First they drew they designs on paper, then they got to hammering them out on their tin cans with a hammer and nail. It was then into the garden to light the tealights to show off their designs.

The evening was finished with a game of streets and alleys.

This weekend, 12 Scouts took on their expedition challenge. In two teams of 6, they navigated the South Downs National Park around Arundel, finishing at Rustington beach.

Two days of hiking, navigating, and carrying their kit with an overnight camp at Furzefield Scout Campsite.

Well done to all the Scouts, and thank you to the leaders who supported this. It was a great weekend, with some funny moments and many memories made.

On Friday the Scouts went on a chip shop hike around NorthCheam/Stonecot Hill. They sampled chips from three chip shops.

The Scouts enjoyed the chips from all three shops, but on voting their favourite was found.

First week back at Scouts after the summer break was a Trangia cooking evening led by one of our Young Leaders.

In preparation for their expedition challenge next weekend the Scouts learnt about Trangia safety and how to cook on them.

They made apple crumble which they all enjoyed.
