🚤 And we're back afloat! ⛵️

After a couple of weeks off the water—some planned, some rather less so—it's fantastic to see our boating programme back in full swing!

The next six sessions are all about developing the next generation of sailors, with six of our newer cadets working towards their RYA Stage 1 Dinghy Sailing qualification. It's always exciting to see confidence grow from those very first moments afloat to taking control of a dinghy themselves.

Just as importantly, our senior cadets will be putting the skills they've developed throughout their cadet journey into practice by crewing the safety boat, supporting the training under the guidance of our unit's own RYA Senior Instructor. It's a brilliant example of cadets learning, developing, and then giving back by helping those following in their wake.

Here's to six weeks of learning, teamwork, laughter, and plenty of time on the water. We can't wait to see what everyone achieves!

Before and (almost) after! 🌱💪

Sometimes, the biggest transformations begin with a single step.

Over the past six weeks, we've been incredibly fortunate to work alongside dedicated volunteers who have helped us breathe new life into an outdoor space that had been overlooked for far too long. What once felt like an overwhelming task is now becoming the foundation for something truly special.

A huge thank you also goes to our amazing neighbours, who not only supported us by installing a brand-new boundary fence but also generously helped remove all of the brambles and weeds we cleared (there was a lot! 😅). Your kindness and willingness to help has made a real difference.

While there's still work ahead, with boats and old furniture still to be removed, this is more than just a tidy-up. It's the beginning of a vision: creating an outdoor training and social area that will benefit our members and our community for years to come.

Every bit of progress, no matter how small it may seem, brings us one step closer to where we want to be. This is only the beginning, and we can't wait to share the journey with you all.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Together, we're building something special. 💙

Over the weekend, now former, Corporal Duncan aged out and was tonight welcomed to the volunteer team as he transitioned from a cadet to a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer, joining us as a Probationary Sergeant.

This marks a significant milestone for the unit, welcoming in a CFAV to support the development of the existing RMC detachment, something that has been missing for over a year.

*Note: P/Sgt (SCC) Duncan has been presented with substantive Sgt stripes, whilst the unit waits on delivery of the correct stripes. P/Sgts wear a red bar across the bottom of their slide or on their epaulette, denoting their probationary status.

Day Three of National Volunteers’ Week: A Huge Shoutout to Our Corporate Volunteers!

Yesterday, 12 amazing volunteers from one of London’s larger corporations joined us for a day of volunteering, organised by Reach Volunteering.

As you can see from the first three photos, our grounds had become substantially overgrown, including our historic bramble bush along the side of the property, which had started taking over a significant amount of space.

Well, our volunteers absolutely smashed it! The bush is cleared, giving us plenty of space to develop our outdoor area. And in the process, they uncovered a hidden treasure trove: an old road trailer, several kayaks, and even a windsurf board… don’t ask how long those had been hiding! 👀

A massive thank you to everyone who helped. What might seem like a small gesture has a huge impact on our unit, allowing us to create better spaces and opportunities for our cadets.

Watch this space! Those old kayaks aren’t just relics—they’re about to get a new lease of life. We can’t wait to see what they become!

As we celebrate Day Two of National Volunteers’ Week, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible Unit Management Team.

Working tirelessly behind the scenes, you ensure the smooth running of our unit, handling everything from policies, finance, and insurance to day-to-day upkeep. Your efforts allow the instructional team to focus entirely on what matters most: delivering outstanding training and experiences for our cadets.

Your dedication may often go unseen, but its impact is felt every day. The success of our unit, and the opportunities our young people enjoy, wouldn’t be possible without you.

Thank you for your professionalism, commitment, and unwavering support. You truly make a difference!
