Happy to be in "Because We Weren't There...", a powerful film showcasing the impact of voluntary and community organisations across Merthyr Tydfil.
We are honoured to contribute to this project alongside many incredible organisations that work tirelessly to support local people, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for all.
As a community association, we believe that building connections, celebrating culture, supporting families, and encouraging volunteering all play a part in making Merthyr a stronger and more inclusive place to live.
A huge thank you to Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil (VAMT), Merthyr Valleys Homes, and everyone involved in bringing this important message to life.

What if the support you rely on every day suddenly disappeared?

'Because We Weren’t There...' shines a light on the incredible work of voluntary organisations in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales - voiced by service users, volunteers and the sector employees themselves. From tackling loneliness and isolation to supporting the most vulnerable, volunteers and their organisations are vital to our communities.

This film was developed with Merthyr Tydfil's Third Sector Leaders' Forum, a group facilitated by Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil, and highlights the important role that voluntary organisations play in supporting local people and strengthening communities across Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. It was produced by Merthyr Valleys Homes on behalf of the sector.

The heart of Kalamela was not only on the stage, but in the audience too.

Every clap, every cheer, every laugh, and every familiar face added life to the event. Kalamela is more than performances and prizes, it is a day where families come together, children feel supported, and our community grows stronger.

Noyal also stepped up as one of our Youth Wing MCs, helping host the programme and keep the event moving with confidence.

It was lovely to see our young members taking responsibility on stage, not only as performers, but also as anchors, speakers, and future leaders.

Kalamela gives our children the chance to try new things, build confidence, and learn what it means to stand before a community and lead with courage.

Kalamela is not only about singing, dancing, or competitions. It is also about giving our children and young people the chance to try new roles, to speak, host, lead, organise, and grow.

When our youth get the microphone, they are not just announcing the next item. They are learning confidence, responsibility, communication, and leadership.
