Gellideg Foundation Group The Gellideg Foundation Group (the GFG) is a community organisation based on a social housing estate in Merthyr Tydfil

Gellideg is a social housing estate in the north of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. Built in the 1940's, the area suffered with the decline of manufacturing, and by the 1990's we were experiencing high levels of unemployment and social exclusion. The Gellideg Foundation Group was formed in 1998 by 6 mothers on the estate who wanted to create better life for our children. Over the years we have grow

n into a community group and registered charity, employing over 35 people, delivering programmes across the themesof health,youth,education and the environment. Over 100 local residents volunteer their time to provide activities for all ages, across the ward. Today we remain a grassroots organisation, valuing the potential within our community and believing the future is ours to create. We continue to ensure that every resident in the area has the opportunity to realise their full potential thus helping young people, the community and local business to prosper-retaining created wealth in the community
