Back to King's Newton again to steady the dodgy stile opposite the Hardinge Arms PH. We have installed a large stake on one side and will go back again soon to add another on the other side if needed. It does seem more secure now but take care when you go over it.

Great read about the 90th anniversary of the national park movement.

Ninety years ago today, 26 May 1936, the Standing Committee on National Parks held its first meeting, at 4 Hobart Place in London. This was before there were any national parks in the UK; they were…

**Grant Protected Status to UK Trig Points**.

So sad to see trig points being removed from locations where they cause no harm to farming. Please sign the petition to get this matter discussed in the House of Commons.

We have made temporary repairs to the stile at King's Newton but it looks like it has taken quite a blow, dislodging some of the stone work. Many thanks to a nearby neighbour for supplying us with a new piece of timber for one of the cross rails. We will try and shore it up further next week.

We were alerted to a damaged stile at King's Newton, almost opposite the Hardinge Arms, on Monday. After inspecting it on Tuesday it looks like it was deliberately vandalised; we can't think why anyone would do this and if someone saw anything suspicious please let us know.

Our treasurer, Stuart, fixed the top rail back on yesterday and we will try tomorrow to make the outer posts stronger. Of course this stile is not our responsibility but we have been there several times to repair it because it is heavily used by the public. Our offer to replace it with a top quality metal gate for free in the past was not taken up.

Our walk tomorrow from the car park close to the Weston on Trent Village Hall starts at 10:00 - Thursday 23rd.

Traffic is very slow moving on the Swarkestone to Chellaston road so please take that into consideration when setting off.

Weston-on-Trent Village Hall is located in the centre of Weston-on-Trent at the junction of Main Street and Trent Lane. There are two rooms available for rent, both have disabled access and can be used by different groups at the same time

Another signpost we uprighted last week at Barrow upon Trent. We hate to see these lovely old oak posts go to waste which would happen if the council replaced them with a metal one which probably costs 100s of £s with contractors costs included. And it would take them years to do the job!

If there are any local repairs which need doing to Public Right of Ways let us know through [email protected].
