We're having a free Apple Afternoon on Sunday the 27th September from 12 to 4pm. Come along with a picnic and enjoy the site, followed by some apple themed crafts, campfire cooking, trying a some of our many varieties of apples and using the apple press. It's free to attend but please book a space using the link and there might be a small charge for some activities so bring some money. Also on site that day is Andy Mason firing Raku pottery, expect lots of flames, so keep your distance while you watch!

It's here at last our first family focused volunteering session. Lots of opportunities to learn about nature, help out and have fun. 2 to 4pm at Whistlewood Common, The Common Melbourne, on the same turning as the Melbourne Animal Farm.

If you missed the previous free stone fruit pruning workshop please come along to our next one focusing on your plum trees. We'll show you how to prune your trees at home to improve your crop and keep them a reasonable size for your garden and you'll help us out by pruning while you learn. Free, Sunday 23rd August 1 to 4 pm. Everyone welcome, including those who know how to prune.

A really successful afternoon at Whistlewood, thanks to all of you who came to the pruning workshop and helped us prune some of the many stone fruit trees. All of the cherries were pruned which is great, and lots of new faces to learn pruning skills. We hope you enjoyed your afternoon. Another session to focus on plums and damsons is planned for the 23rd August.
A special mention to Chris for coming along and getting through some maintenance tasks, thank you.

Could you help us build a Whistlewood Maintenance Team?
Over the years, we've had a brilliant group of volunteers helping with the practical side of running Whistlewood. Much of what we enjoy today is thanks to their dedication. Their contribution has been enormous and we're hugely grateful. As people's circumstances have changed, we're now looking to rebuild this team.
The role includes tasks such as:
🌱Grass cutting
🔍Routine inspections and checks (safety equipment, water systems)
🔧General maintenance & small jobs around the site
💭Do you enjoy practical problem-solving?
📋Like keeping things organised and running smoothly
⏱️Can you contribute a little time, either regularly or occasionally?
🛠️Have practical, maintenance, facilities, DIY, farming, engineering or similar experience (although enthusiasm matters just as much!)
📝Not all roles need to be physical. Some tasks involve planning, coordinating, record-keeping, inspections or organising maintenance activities.
🌳We're all volunteers, so can give time regularly, and some as and when, every contribution is appreciated.

Join our new Yoga Teacher, Liz for weekly evening Yoga. With 4 choices of class times Liz is looking forward to welcoming you. Mondays: 5.45 pm and 7 pm. Tuesdays: 6.00 pm and Thursday: 6.00 pm.

Yoga is more than movement. It's an opportunity to slow down, breathe and reconnect with yourself.

Each class begins with breathing exercises to help you settle before moving through a sequenced practice to improve strength, mobility, balance and flexibility. Different variations are offered throughout the class, encouraging you to listen to your body and choose what feels right for you.

Throughout the class, Liz weaves together traditional yoga with ideas from other movement practices and modern research, inviting you to explore and discover what works best for your body.

We finish with Savasana (relaxation), an essential part of the practice that gives your body and mind time to settle. As your breathing and heart rate slow, your nervous system learns that it's safe to move from challenge back to calm. Over time, this becomes a skill you can use in everyday life.
