Join Birdwise East Kent for a BRAND NEW! event, a guide in a hide‼️. You will find our rangers at the Reedbed hide at Stodmarsh Nature Reserve (hide closest to the carpark) on the 1st of December from 11am- 1pm to answer any questions but to also guide you through what we can see out on the marsh🦆🦆. Whether you are experienced or a beginner, a guide in a hide caters to all abilities. Feel free to pop in and out throughout the two hours, there is no pressure to stay 🐦. As we are all probably aware by now it is starting to get chilly and in December it may be cold and even wet so please wrap up warm, feel free to bring hot flasks and appropriate footwear if you decide to walk around the reserve at it does get muddy❄️💦.
As always this event will be free
No need to book for this one just turn up whenever suits you between 11am- 1pm🌳.

Did You Know that it is National Tree Week from the 21st - 28th of November. In celebration of this we at Birdwise think that it is incredibly important to showcase local woodlands and habitats, especially those home to an array of woodland bird species🐦. To recognise this important week we are hosting three guided woodland walks 🌳
Clowes Wood (Whitstable)- 20th November 1pm-3pm
Mocketts wood (Broadstairs) - 24th November 10am - 11.30am
Ramsgate cemetery- 29th November 10am-12pm

As always they are all free but booking is advised due to popularity. Please find more information on our eventbrite which can be found under the events page on our website.

And thats a wrap on the 5th Great Kentish Bird Off !!
The results are in ….. 🥁

Bird Wise North Kent managed to spot a whopping 66 species at Riverside Country Park!! A massive congratulations to the team for spotting that many !
But here Bird Wise East Kent, we managed to spot 78 different species at Pegwell Bay Country Park 🥳🎉.

We have managed to narrowly hold our title of champion for another year and we can’t wait for next year to see who can claim the title 💪

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who could come and join us on the day to help us keep our title and brave the weather ☔️

What an amazing day 🎉

📢 GREAT KENTISH BIRD OFF – EVENT UPDATE

A few changes to tomorrow’s Great Kentish Bird Off at Pegwell Bay Country Park, Saturday 24 October.

🌧️ Due to the forecast wet and windy weather, our free Beginners’ Walk and Talk at 1pm has been cancelled.

The main event will continue from 10am–2pm, with activities based in the Pegwell Bay bird hide, provided weather conditions remain safe.

⚠️ Your safety is our priority. Please consider the weather conditions before travelling, dress warmly in waterproof clothing, wear suitable footwear, and take extra care on potentially wet, muddy or slippery paths.

Please check your travel arrangements before setting off and keep an eye on this page for any further updates. If conditions deteriorate, we may need to make additional changes or cancel the event.

We appreciate your understanding and hope to see you there if conditions allow. Please travel safely! 🐦

Upcoming Event Reminder!!

📣 We’ll be hosting our 5th annual Great Kentish Bird Off on Saturday 24 October at Pegwell Bay Country Park from 10am-4pm!

💪 We will be going head to head with Bird Wise North Kent to identify as many different species as possible to see who the winner of this year is. Whoever identifies the most wins! They will be hosting theirs at Riverside Country Park.

👀 We’ll be defending our crown from last year, so we need as many eyes as possible to help out!

🙌 We have a guided walk up on our Eventbrite that is booking up fast (keep an eye out for cancellations if it is fully booked!) and will have a few small stalls from other local organisations including a representative of Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory, a RSPB Youth Group and a Coastal Education Officer from TDC to make it a fun family day out!

🎊🥳 WELCOME HOME TO OUR DARING DOZEN 🥳🎊

Now that we are into autumn, we are starting to see more and more of our daring dozen as they complete their migrations (some up to 3000 miles long!) so that they can escape their harsh winters from places such as Canada, Russia and Scandinavia to rest on our milder shores 😴

Whilst they are here it is important to not disturb them as best we can so they can rest, recover and regain their energy stores to be able to complete their migration back in the spring just in time for their summer breeding seasons 🐣

Join us for a special collaboration with Wild About Whitstable for a coastal wildlife Identification session at the Quay shed education room at Whitstable Harbour 🔍. Do you live along the coastline and ever wonder what wildlife you can see or maybe you have seen something and didn't know what it was, well this is the talk for you!🐦 This talk is for beginners, we hope that you will leave with an insight into what we can find along our Kent coastline and the wonders in which inhabit the rockpools, skies and surrounding area 🏖🦀. With the exhibition over for another year, we just wanted to thank everyone who visited us at our various locations over the summer. Those of you who did visit may have seen that there was an opportunity to have your vote in our People's choice award 📸📷.
Having counted all the votes from all 4 venues we can now confirm that in 3rd place is Dashing on the rocks by Conor Kerrigan. In second place is First light, silent flight by Greg Patton and the winner of the East Kent Coast photography awards 2026, people's choice category is Dean Spinks with the image A new Day 🏆🏆. A big well done to Dean and all the other entrants of this years competition. We received a whopping 506 votes, which is an exhibition record, so thank you everyone who voted😆😁.
