We’ve had a fantastic summer at the Umbrella Club!
Our young people have enjoyed lots of fun activities, shared plenty of laughs, tried new things and made some brilliant memories together. It’s been wonderful to see friendships grow and everyone enjoying a safe, welcoming space where they can be themselves. ☂️💛
As summer comes to an end, The Umbrella Club continues as usual, with lots more activities and fun to look forward to throughout the year.

Important Update from The Umbrella Club

Due to ongoing funding challenges, we will be making some changes to how The Umbrella Club runs from Thursday 4th June.

Going forwards, we will no longer have separate junior and senior sessions. Instead, we will run one combined session for young people aged 10–18 every Thursday from 6pm–8pm.

The Umbrella Club will continue to be a safe, welcoming and supportive community for young people with invisible differences, with activities including arts & crafts, sports, cooking, games and social time.

We understand that changes can feel unsettling, and we are committed to making the transition as smooth and supportive as possible for everyone attending. Safety and wellbeing will remain our priority, and measures will be in place to ensure younger and older members are appropriately supported within the session.

Thank you to all our families, carers, volunteers and supporters for continuing to support our community 💜

What is Alexithymia?

Some young people feel things BIG… but can’t always find the words for it.

Alexithymia isn’t “being dramatic”, “shut down”, or “not trying”.
It’s when emotions are happening inside, but they’re hard to notice, name, or explain.

So you might see “I don’t know”, a blank face, or calm-on-the-outside… but inside?
It can be loud, confusing, and overwhelming.

This visual breaks down what alexithymia is, how it can show up, and what actually helps.
