Westgate Youth Project The Umbrella Club is a youth provision for young people aged 10 - 19 with hidden disabilities. This could be ASD, ADHD or mental health problems.

Westgate Youth Project is a registered charity that runs The Umbrella Club. A hidden disability is defined as any disability that is not immediately apparent upon meeting the person. The aim of the project is to provide a safe, nurturing and positive environment where young people can meet, socialise, make new contacts and friends, learn and cultivate a sense of belonging. Young people are abl

e to build positive healthy relationships with other young people with whom they have things in common and make their voices heard without fear of ridicule and discrimination
The staff team is made up of the board of trustees, youth work manager and paid and voluntary youth workers. Westgate Youth Project offers fun, challenging activities and provides opportunities for young people to gather and socialise in safe spaces .

What is Alexithymia?

Some young people feel things BIG… but can’t always find the words for it.

Alexithymia isn’t “being dramatic”, “shut down”, or “not trying”.
It’s when emotions are happening inside, but they’re hard to notice, name, or explain.

So you might see “I don’t know”, a blank face, or calm-on-the-outside… but inside?
It can be loud, confusing, and overwhelming.
