Today I chaired the Boundary Review Committee, where we formally approved the final proposal for the Margate Town Council Order. The proposal will now be considered by Full Council on 18 June.

Once approved, the formal process to establish Margate Town Council will begin. Current elected councillors would become Shadow Town Councillors during the transition period.

Key dates:

1 April – Formal vesting day for Margate Town Council

6 May – Elections for the new Town Council

One of the most common questions residents have asked is about the cost.

The current proposal is based on a Town Council precept of around £30 - £38 per year for depending on your council tax banding, which would represent an increase of approximately £12 - £20 per year compared with current arrangements.

As the process moves forward, there will be opportunities for residents to engage with the Town Council, the services it may provide, and how the transition will work.

I will continue to share updates but, the time is almost upon us to launch the very first Margate Town Council
