Boaz Trust

05/10/2026

We won an award! 🎉🏅 At the Christian Funders Forum awards evening at Lambeth Palace last week, Boaz was recognised for outstanding contribution, commitment, and impact in the 'Thriving Communities' category.

It was so encouraging to be at an event celebrating projects rooted in faith, compassion and a desire to see people thrive. We were also delighted to meet Radio 1Xtra DJ, Swarzy, during the evening ✨

Boaz Trust was founded 22 years ago by Dave Smith, responding to God's call to welcome the stranger - people who were seeking asylum or who had been granted refugee status. Dave started by asking people to open their spare rooms. As need grew, we moved into shared housing, and today we offer specialist, trauma informed support built around each individual person, through a mix of housing-based support and our outreach work. Last year we worked right across Greater Manchester with more than 800 people from 64 countries.

That growth didn't happen in one leap. It was a series of small steps, each one building on the last, and it happened thanks to relationships and connections within local communities. As a faith-based organisation, centred on the teachings of Jesus, we believe we're all called to share this kind of welcome - now more than ever.

We are so grateful for all of the support we have received from members of the Christian Funders Forum over the years, and we are delighted that our work in welcoming people has been recognised in this way 🧡

🚨 The Immigration and Asylum Bill is now at committee stage, where every clause and schedule of the proposed legislation is being examined in detail. We believe this bill represents an unprecedented erosion of refugee protection rights. Read our latest blog post about how it will cause harm, and what can be done to oppose it 🔗 https://www.boaztrust.org.uk/articles/immigration-and-asylum-bill-where-it-s-at-and-why-we-re-so-concerned

We’ve been really grateful this year for a grant from the B&Q Foundation via Neighbourly that has allowed us provide so many essential items to people with refugee status moving into their own homes 🏡🧡

The Home Starter Kit funding has meant we could provide cleaning kits, kettles, cookers, washing machines, mattresses, pans, toasters, duvet sets, fridge freezers, microwaves, hoovers, crockery, utensils - and more!

This has helped so many people who have experienced homelessness to feel comfortable, equipped and in control of their new space, while also helping them to sustain successful tenancies. Thank you! ✨

Some of our support workers organised a wellbeing trip to Manchester Science and Industry Museum recently ⚙️ The trip was enjoyed by all, but had a particular impact for one person we work with. You can read his full reflection at the link below 😊

📢 We have some exciting news… 👀 A new Boaz house has recently opened its doors! 😊

We’re incredibly grateful for our new house owner, who has chosen to lease the house to Boaz on a peppercorn rent. So much work has been taking place at the new house over many months and we’re really excited that we’ve now been able to welcome people through the doors 🏡
