Manchester South Central Food Bank hosted by Bridging the Gap

Manchester South Central Food Bank hosted by Bridging the Gap We aim to work with and to support our local community. When we are able to we provide refreshments for community groups meetings.

Manchester South Central Foodbank is delivered by a local charity 'Bridging the Gap' providing a foodbank service to people living in Hulme, Moss Side, Whalley Range and Old Trafford. We work with local agencies to support families/individuals who for various reasons cannot access our foodbank; we will provide emergency food parcels with agency support outside of our distribution sessions. Current

ly we do this by supporting primary school breakfast clubs, groups who cook for street homeless people & agencies who work with asylum seekers.

Behind every energy price rise are households whose direct debits are about to rise, families whose energy debt is harder to clear, and pensioners whose summer is already overshadowed by the winter ahead.

For the families in our communities, the cost of living crisis is far from over, with many now living in very deep poverty. Energy bills going up again in July will push more and more families into financial hardship, once again having to make the impossible decision between eating and energy.

Huge thank you to our friends MUST - The Independent Manchester United Supporters' Trust and their members for donating £3,366.10 through their Foodbank Prize Draw.

Our Food bank hubs are a place of hope and community. They provide a lifeline – offering not just emergency food but a warm welcome, connection over a cup of tea, and advice that makes it less likely people will need our help again.

Despite significant efforts to help support people into financial sustainability, the demand for emergency food remains unacceptably high. Last year we supported over 6000 individuals with emergency food parcels, compassionate support and pathways to long-term solutions. This is a 148% increase compared to 2019, highlighting the growing scale of need and the continued pressure to support people facing hunger and hardship

Thank you for making every parcel packed, every conversation, every journey walked alongside someone who needed support possible. We are endlessly grateful and proud to stand together🫶

Today we would like to shine a light on our amazing volunteer partnership with Rich and his team from DHL 🫶

“Following our team volunteering at the food bank warehouse, we were asked if we could provide further support by delivering ‘holiday hunger’ food parcels to local schools ahead of the upcoming holidays.

Going into this, we didn’t quite know what to expect, but I have to say it has been one of the most rewarding things we’ve ever been involved in. Being able to give something back to the local community in which we work is incredibly important to us, and this initiative has really brought that to life.

The team at the food bank do an outstanding job supporting people across the community, and we’re proud to play a small part in that. We’re very happy to continue offering our support wherever we can, and these delivery runs have quickly become one of the highlights of our year.”

It’s

The generosity and commitment of our volunteer team of over 50 people remains a constant source of inspiration to us. Each person gives their time, expertise and compassion to support people in our communities – and we simply could not deliver emergency food, offer further support, or campaign to end the need for food banks without them.

“I like that the food bank makes an immediate and tangible difference to local people’s lives. I see volunteering as an act of solidarity with our clients, who I enjoy getting to know. It’s very satisfying to work with a group of volunteers who share the same values, and I’ve made some good friends there.”
