We’re a 2‑acre non‑profit community garden centre, just 1 mile south of the city centre 🌱

Café • Shop • Facility hire • Volunteering • Community • Fun for all ages Our mission is to bring the local community together through gardening. As a not-for-profit organisation we provide home grown or locally sourced plants, locally made crafts and gifts, volunteering opportunities for all, and on and off site education promoting horticultural and sustainability. We have a community garden space and run gardening sessions for a range of socially excluded groups (in particular people with learning disabilities and/or mental health problems), schools and voluntary organisations. HCGC is underpinned by organic principles and promotes sustainability, horticulture and the environment, urban gardening and food production, independent living, health and well-being. We also provide back to work and skills training and placements for longer-term unemployed people. We have been established for 22 years and now have a brand new Café Sorrel which is open 7 days a week.

NATURE SCHOOL IS BACK! 🌱

We're delighted to announce the return of our weekly Nature School sessions for home educated and flexi-schooled children aged 6-11 years.

📅 Thursdays�⏰ 1pm - 2.30pm�🌿 7-week block: 5th November - 17th December 2026�💷 £49 for the full block

These multi-sensory sessions give children the opportunity to explore the natural world at Hulme Community Garden Centre, get hands-on in the garden, learn about local biodiversity, and enjoy a range of nature-inspired crafting activities.

Last week we had a great time celebrating the sixth Green & Blues Spaces Action Network Event with Sow the City at Hulme Community Garden Centre.

GBSAN events are always fun: hearing from a wide range of people and groups across GM who are working to make our region greener, healthier, and better connected.

With just 2 weeks to go until Apple & Pumpkin Day, we're officially counting down! Join us at our non-profit community garden centre for a day of autumn fun 🍎🎃

✨ Fancy dress is very much encouraged and we can't wait to see your autumn-inspired outfits!
Enjoy apple pressing, pumpkin carving, wreath making, mulled c***r and the new autumn menu at the Garden Café.

After you have enjoyed a delicious cup of barista coffee and a slice of your favourite cake in our cafe, take some time to browse the huge new selection of plants full of seasonal colour in our garden centre. Our current faves are aptly named Fatsia Camouflage with its mottled green leaves, colour saturated Heucheras and Japanese Anemones which are really coming into their own at this time of year. The perfect way to add a splash of colour to lightly shade spots :-)

🍂🎃 Got the pumpkins all ready for Apple & Pumpkin Day!

Join us on 24th October, 11am-4pm for a fun-filled autumn celebration featuring pumpkin carving, apple pressing, wreath making, live music, local stalls, seasonal food and warming mulled c***r. 🍎✨

We're also excited to welcome lilli pots pottery for a spooky Sculpt & Paint session, where you'll create your very own clay ghost topper 👻
