The importance of listening to children’s voices 💛
Last month, we were honoured to be invited to the launch of 'Three Little Words', the memoir by Lucy Clifford, , at Rochester Corn Exchange.
Lucy’s story is a powerful reminder that children do not always have the words, confidence or opportunity to tell someone what they are experiencing. Sometimes, what they are trying to communicate can be difficult to recognise - which makes listening, looking beyond the surface and creating opportunities for children to be heard all the more important.
Having experienced children’s services as a child, a professional and now an adult reflecting on her experiences, Lucy has written Three Little Words with children’s voices at its heart.
At YLF, we share Lucy’s belief that every child deserves to be listened to, taken seriously and supported to have their voice heard. Through our Advocacy Programmes and wider support for young people across Kent and Medway, we see how important it is to have someone who will listen, understand and stand alongside them.
Thank you to Lucy for the kind invitation and for creating space for such important conversations. We hope Three Little Words continues to encourage greater understanding of what children may be trying to tell us, even when they cannot yet find the words.
