Last Week, CAT was a hive of activity as visiting students from the University of Leeds partook in a series of educational activities exploring sustainability-related topics.

One of these practical workshops was a Green Woodworking activity with our Woodland Engagement Ranger Chris, where students used traditional hand-tools on sustainably sourced wood from CAT.

Key skills desired:
🟢Expertise in finance and/or accounting, preferably a qualified accountant.
🟢An understanding of human resources, employment law and change management.
🟢Experience in leadership, governance and project management for a charity in turnaround.
🟢Knowledge of the Welsh political and economic landscape.

Candidates with private, public, or charity sector experience are welcome. We are particularly interested in individuals who can contribute to strengthening governance, supporting organisational development, and helping guide the charity through this phase of change.

Watching our Sustainable Architecture Students take designs from sketches to structures is always special.

This year, one of the final year projects was a commission from Radnorshire Wildlife Trust for the Wilder Pentwyn Farm re-wilding project.

Built and raised by hand, the structure combines sawn wood with wind-blown larch poles from the site. In keeping with its surroundings, the slanted cladding creates an interplay between light and shadow that echoes the long shadows of trees newly planted at Wilder Pentwyn.

Pairing collaborative design and construction with sustainable and locally sourced materials, the work of Oriana Jopling, Mary Worthington, Seçon Thomas-Patterson, Oliver Grant, Japhet Goodburn is reflective of CAT’s collective and regenerative teaching approach.

Happy ! This year, the focus is on how we can innovate today to nourish tomorrow.

CAT has had a long interest in the importance of food and land use and this year, we were proud to build on this legacy by joining the ‘Menus of Change Research Collaborative.’

The innovative international initiative brings together universities and institutions committed to creating healthier and more sustainable food systems with a focus on:

🍏 Innovative menu design
🍎 Food waste reduction

Every meal we eat has an impact on climate, biodiversity, land use and our health, and creating a more sustainable future means rethinking how we grow, prepare and enjoy our food.

Earlier this week, attendees of our Sustainable Allotment Management: Autumn Short Course spent a day in the CAT Gardens with Veronica, our Gardens Ranger, learning how to grow food sustainably and adapt to the gardening challenges brought about by a changing climate.
