πŸŽ₯ Testimonial Tuesday! Hear directly from Jo-Anna in her own words. πŸ’™

Jo-Anna is an unpaid carer who stayed at Chesford Grange Hotel, part of Q Hotels and her testimonial says it all. She swam, she steamed, she ate well, and for a little while, she simply got to breathe. Sometimes that's everything.

"So my break away was fantastic. I was relaxed. The surroundings were beautiful, and I swam and did a steam pool, steam room, and it was really relaxing. I had a lovely meal as well. So, yeah, it really made a difference. Thank you so much." β€” Jo-Anna, an unpaid carer who stayed at Chesford Grange Hotel

🌟 Testimonial Tuesday! And it's Gemma's story this week:

"I want to thank you at Carefree and Handpicked Hotels for the opportunity to stay at somewhere that is so exquisite. I would not of been able to afford such a stay on my carers allowance but myself and a friend went for a spa break and had some treatments some cocktails and lovely food. Staff were so attentive, especially Karen who done my treatment at the spa. I literally hit the ground running as I had one child home sick and got a phone call whilst I was still at the hotel from my other daughters school to say they had had a bad fall and needed collecting. Because I was so rested and my back had had an opportunity to recover (it had gone a couple of days before) I was able to deal with the chaos that is my life with two disabled children so I want to thank you and the team at the hotel this has meant more to me than you will ever know." β€” Gemma, an unpaid carer who stayed at Rookery Hall Hotel and Spa

Gemma got the call before she'd even left the hotel. But because she'd had the chance to rest, truly rest, she was ready. That's not a coincidence. That's what a Carefree break does.

Today, your feed will probably fill up with self-care tips. Bubble baths. Morning routines. "Just take time for yourself!" If you're an unpaid carer, we know how that lands. There is no spare hour. Often there's no spare minute. And what carers actually need, real support, real respite, recognition, can't be fixed with a scented candle.

So we're not here with tips. Just this: if today you manage 15 minutes of stillness, a stretch, a cup of tea while it's still hot, that counts. And you deserve far more than that.
When you're ready, a Carefree break is here for you. A real pause, not a platitude. πŸ’›

It's testimonial time! Michelle's words are a beautiful reminder of what a Carefree break really means β€” not just rest, but reconnection.

"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our little break away at the Hampstead Court Hotel and Spa. The hotel was wonderful and our room was lovely and peaceful. We went on a lovely walk to a village pub by a stream and had a meal. We relaxed in our room and we went to Basingstoke and pottered around the shops. Our lives are stressful and we rarely get time to relax together and it meant so much to us both. Please thank the hotel for us. Their generosity has made a special break away possible. We both felt refreshed by it. And thank you Carefree charity too and all who work for it. You make a wonderful difference to carers' lives." β€” Michelle, an unpaid carer who stayed at the Hampshire Court Hotel
A walk to a village pub. A potter around the shops. Time to simply breathe together. It sounds simple, but for an unpaid carer, moments like these can feel out of reach. That's exactly why Carefree exists.

That quiet voice telling you not to stop? The one that says taking a break is selfish, that something will go wrong the moment you leave? That's carer guilt. And it's keeping millions of unpaid carers from the rest they desperately need. πŸ’›

In our blog, we look at where carer guilt comes from, why it makes complete sense that you feel it, and why you deserve to rest anyway.

Because taking a break doesn't mean you love them less. You can't pour from an empty cup.

When did you last do something just for you?

Today, we’re hearing from Alison who took a break at the Village Hotel in Chester. (Part of Village Hotels)

From the moment she booked, simple, easy, straightforward, to arriving at the hotel and being made to feel truly special by the staff, everything was designed to make sure that for once, she came first.

And the impact? She said it best herself.

"I could come home and care for my husband a bit better than previously."

That's what a break does. It doesn't just help the carer, it helps everyone they care for too.

πŸ’™ Testimonial Tuesday is here and Daniel's story is pure joy from start to finish!

"I was able to go to London for the first time in years. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Probably overdid it a bit as I didn't stop walking! But I really wanted to make the most of being out of the house. Lots of fresh air, lots of sight-seeing, lots of exercise. It was brilliant. My sincerest thanks to Carefree for offering the opportunity, and to The Zetter Hotel, Marylebone for a wonderful stay. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the room was beyond anything I could have dreamed of. The free breakfast was also greatly appreciated, I'm only sorry that I had an appointment booked and couldn't stick around to take full advantage! All in all, I'll be remembering my trip for a very long time and I can't thank both Carefree and The Zetter Hotel enough for making it happen." β€” Daniel, an unpaid carer who stayed at The Zetter Marylebone

Daniel hadn't been to London in years. One Carefree break later, and he walked until his feet ached, and loved every second. That's what happens when an unpaid carer finally gets a moment to just... live.

🌟 Testimonial Tuesday is BACK! And Carmel's words remind us exactly why a Carefree break is so much more than a holiday. ⬇️

"Thank you so much for this break. It was so so badly needed. We were honestly just about hanging on by a thread before we had it. Even staying for just one day was like gold and made me feel more human again...a lot more human. We needed this so much and are so so grateful to all the kind a lovely staff who made our stay so relaxing. I saw a glimpse of who I once was...it has made me much stronger and more able to fulfil my continual caring role with more lightness. It was a very nourishing trip." β€” Carmel, an unpaid carer who stayed at the Talbot Ripley Hotel

Hanging on by a thread. One stay. And then... lightness. πŸ’™ That's the power of rest.

This Carers Week, you showed up for unpaid carers across the UK, and together, we raised Β£6,500. πŸ’› Every donation, every share, every kind word made a difference. To our carers, hotel partners, community partners, and friends of Carefree, thank you.

While Carers Week may be over, our work is far from done. If you'd like to continue supporting unpaid carers, donations are still open. Every contribution goes directly toward giving a carer a much needed night away- a break that changes everything.

What does it look like when we properly support unpaid carers? It looks like Β£237 million in social value.

For years, we’ve known that respite breaks are vital for a carer's well-being. Now, our new independent research with Just Economics proves they are just as vital for the country.

By scaling respite breaks, we project an incredible Β£237 million in generated social value.

This data changes the conversation. Carer breaks aren’t a "nice-to-have" benefit; they are a critical national investment that keeps the NHS and social care system from reaching a breaking point.

We have the proof that this model works at scale. Now, it's time to act on it.
