This year we've had the pleasure of supporting so many incredible young people as they prepared for their maths exams.

Thank you to our students for your commitment, our instructors for your dedication, our sixth-form mentors for your encouragement, and our partner schools for working with us to help young people reach their potential.

Today is Never Give Up Day 💙

Every year we meet young people who believe they're "just not good at maths".

But confidence doesn't grow overnight. It grows through perseverance, encouragement and having someone who believes in you.

At MathsMakers, we've seen students transform simply because they didn't give up—and because they had the right support around them.

Every question attempted. Every mistake learnt from. Every small success matters.

Never give up. You might be closer than you think. 🌟

🍂 Why is autumn the best time for maths intervention?

The start of a new academic year offers a valuable opportunity to help students build confidence before gaps in learning become more established.

At MathsMakers, our small-group maths programmes are designed to complement classroom teaching by providing personalised support for young people who need extra help with maths, with a particular focus on those experiencing disadvantage.

We work with students in Years 5–11, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), English as an Additional Language (EAL), young carers and students eligible for Pupil Premium.

Whether delivered in person across London or online anywhere in England, our programmes help students strengthen mathematical understanding, build confidence and make sustained progress.

We're excited to launch a brand-new weekly challenge designed to get you thinking!

Each Monday, we'll be sharing a fun maths or logic puzzle for you to solve. Some will be quick, some will be tricky - but they're all about enjoying the challenge and thinking in different ways.

👏 Thank You Mentors

As National Work Experience Month comes to a close, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all of the volunteer mentors who supported MathsMakers programmes this year.

Across 11 schools and community organisations, 95 mentors helped to support 113 younger students, building confidence, developing skills and encouraging a positive attitude towards maths.

Mentor feedback showed that the experience helped young people develop a range of transferable skills including communication, leadership, patience, adaptability, problem-solving and confidence. Many mentors also highlighted the value of learning how to explain concepts clearly, support younger students with different learning needs and build positive relationships.

Some of our mentors told us:

💬 "I've achieved a real sense of confidence now with helping other people."

💬 "I learnt patience and compassion."

💬 "I found it very enjoyable and I was able to get much better at teaching and giving information in different ways, a skill needed in the workplace."

Thank you to every mentor who gave their time, enthusiasm and encouragement to support younger students this year. Your contribution makes a real difference.

✨ A year of progress at MathsMakers ✨

As another academic year comes to an end, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the achievements of our students, mentors, schools and community partners.

This year, we supported 319 young people, helping them build their maths skills, confidence and belief in what they can achieve.

We’re especially proud of the continued growth of our peer mentoring programme, where 95 older students supported younger learners, becoming positive role models and developing valuable skills along the way.

From maths sessions and confidence-building to exciting opportunities like Chalkhill Community Radio, it has been a year filled with learning, growth and memorable moments.

🎙️ Meet Nicola – one of our amazing MathsMakers student mentors!

As part of National Work Experience Month, we're sharing Nicola's story from our recent interview on ChalkHill Community Radio.

Nicola talks about how mentoring younger students has helped them build confidence in maths while also developing her own communication, leadership and mentoring skills.

It's a great reminder that work experience isn't just about gaining experience for your CV – it's about making a real difference, building confidence and learning from each other.
