About the Dutch Centre

The Dutch Centre in London kicked off in 2013 with a diverse programme showcasing the very best of Dutch arts and culture. We aim to provide a unique focal point for the promotion of Dutch culture and heritage in the UK. The programme of the Dutch Centre offers a wide variety of events; screening the newest Dutch films, talks and lectures, literature nights, live comedy, co

ncerts and exhibitions by Dutch artists and designers. Our fantastic venue at Austin Friars gives us a prime location to host exciting events. Our audience

The Dutch Centre is not just for Dutch people living in the UK but also attracts a much wider audience from in and around London. We aim to reach out to everyone interested in arts and culture or those who want to learn more about the rich cultural life The Netherlands has to offer. Thus events are either held in English or have English subtitles/translation.

💭 Have you ever wondered who the people behind the Dutch Centre are?

✅ If yes, we’re starting a new series on our social media: , where we’ll introduce our team, one by one.

🕺 Her passion for culture, together with her experience as a professional musician & event organiser, helps make the Dutch Centre a welcoming place where people in London can come together, share ideas and celebrate Dutch culture.

🥰 Jacobine says: “I just love the Dutch Centre because it’s a place that brings people together through culture and creativity.”

🤝 She loves being part of a community that brings the best of the Netherlands to London while creating opportunities for people to connect and share their love of Dutch culture.

🇳🇱 While we’re taking a little summer break from our regular events, we didn’t want to leave you without your dose of Dutch culture. So we’re starting a brand new series - , where we’ll be sharing fascinating stories from the Netherlands’ past.

👶 Until the mid-20th century, Dutch children dressed almost exactly like adults, just in much smaller sizes. Tiny wooden , cosy woollen tops, hats and perhaps the most iconic: the wide-legged .

😎 Every garment was designed with everyday life in mind, from keeping warm in the Dutch climate to standing up to farm work and daily chores. Fashion was probably the last thing on a child’s mind, yet somehow these designs look quite stylish today.
