Well worth a watch. Iolo Williams, a rare nature presenter in that he actually understands what red squirrel conservation is all about, and the indomitable 'Squirrel Whisperer' Hue Rowlands. RSST Photo Competition - Squirrels through the seasons
REMINDER : Closing date: 12 Noon on 31 Mar 2026.

Entrants must be from the UK and must not be professional photographers. (For the purposes of this competition, a professional photographer will be considered to be someone who makes more than half their annual income from the sale of their photographs)
Entrants for the four Open categories can submit up to three photographs in total, either for a single category or across any of the four categories (‘Spring’, ‘Summer’, ‘Autumn’ and ‘Winter’).

Entrants for the 18 and Under category can submit up to two photographs in total.

Submissions: Photos can be submitted via email/WeTransfer to [email protected]

AND DON'T FORGET TO TELL US WHICH SEASONAL CATEGORY YOU ARE ENTERING YOUR IMAGES FOR.

Happy New Year everyone

The Red Squirrel Survival Trust’s annual photographic competition is now open for entries.
The Red Squirrel Survival Trust (RSST) wants your beautiful images that capture the iconic endangered species through the four seasons. Four winners will be selected from each of the Open categories (‘Spring’, ‘Summer’, ‘Autumn’ and ‘Winter’) along with an overall winner, and an extra category for young photographers aged 18 and under. An additional set of images will be chosen to form the RSST calendar. Alongside our winners, many images are used throughout the year for awareness campaigns. In addition, a number are used in slide materials for education purposes, always with the photographer’s name credited.
Submissions: Photos can be submitted via email/WeTransfer to [email protected] from 1 Jan 2026.
Details of this year’s competition:
Closing date: 12 Noon on 31 Mar 2026.
£50 will be awarded to the winners of each of the four categories
(The winner of the 18 and Under category will also receive £50.00).
An Overall Winner will receive an additional £50.00 and their winning image will be used for next year’s jigsaw puzzle.
Entrants must be from the UK

We are delighted to announce during red squirrel awareness week that nominations are now open to vote for your 2025 RSST Volunteer of the Year. The RSST ‘Volunteer of the Year Award’ is specifically for volunteer groups across the UK, to nominate an individual who demonstrates outstanding dedication and effectiveness in their work to protect our endangered native species, the red squirrel. Closing date for nominations is 15th December 2025.

Ian has built a great relationship with a 'red squirrel trapeze family' on the Isle of Wight. He has spent much time learning which squirrels jump in a certain way in order to catch these great images.
