At New Beginnings, children who have faced trauma, abandonment, and incredibly difficult situations are welcomed into something truly special: a family.
Alongside its wider work, New Beginnings includes a family foster home, where young people are cared for in a loving and stable environment by ChildAid’s local partner leaders, who serve as foster parents.
Over the years, they have supported so many children in need — and what is especially moving is seeing that these children remain part of the family even after they leave. Some have even chosen to take the family surname because that is how deeply they feel they belong.
This is not simply fostering children. This is not just providing a place to stay. This is family.

Diana Covalciuc, Director of the Tony Hawks Centre in Moldova, also highlights a major challenge: there are still too few trained occupational therapists in the country.
At ChildAid, we are working with partners to change that — strengthening occupational therapy services, supporting professional training, and helping build a more sustainable future for children with disabilities in Moldova. Since 2019, this work has grown through partnership with the Tony Hawks Centre, Moldovan universities, and international occupational therapy experts, with continued progress toward university-level OT training and a new home-based assessment initiative for children and families.

Baby Maria’s story is one of fragility, courage, and hope.
Born prematurely and dangerously weak, Maria spent the first months of her life fighting to survive. Her condition was critical, and for a long time her future remained uncertain.
With urgent support provided through our partner Children’s Hearts, Maria received the life-saving medication, medical care, and specialized nutrition she needed. Today, she is finally home with her family, slowly gaining strength and beginning to thrive.
She is a calm, gentle baby, deeply connected to those who care for her. After such a difficult beginning, each new reaction, each peaceful sleep, and each small sign of progress means so much.
The support Maria has received — from emergency treatment to formula, diapers, hygiene products, and a stroller — has helped give her a real chance at life.

Throwback to one of the stories that shows why this work matters so much. 💙 Nelya’s early life was filled with loss, hardship, and emotional neglect. Trust did not come easily. But through the New Beginnings Programme, and the steady support of Igor and Alexandra, she began to experience something life-changing: love that stayed.
Step by step, that support helped her build a future she once thought was impossible — continuing her education, finding stability, and creating a loving family of her own.
Her story reminds us that when a young person is met with patience, care, and belief, healing can begin and hope can grow. Every child deserves that chance.
