No one should be tortured for standing up for their culture.

This , we're amplifying the voices of Indigenous activists, campaigners and defenders around the world.

Today and every day, Indigenous rights are human rights.

Almost 35 years ago to the day, John McCarthy returned home after spending more than five years as a hostage in Lebanon, where he was subjected to torture.

He stands with the 4 in 5 British people who believe torture is wrong in all circumstances.

There can be no exceptions.

We challenged the Home Office in court - and won! 🎉

Following a successful legal challenge brought by ourselves and The Helen Bamber Foundation the Home Office has reinstated key protections for survivors of torture and other highly vulnerable people seeking asylum. 🚨

These protections recognise what our clinicians have known for years: safe, appropriate accommodation is essential for recovery. When survivors are forced to share rooms or live in unsuitable accommodation, it can worsen trauma and make it much harder to heal.

By bringing expert clinical evidence to court, we helped secure the return of protections that will mean that survivors of torture are once again considered unsuitable for shared rooms and former military barracks.

This is an important victory for survivors of torture.

We'll keep on fighting for their rights.

Nadine arrived in the UK terrified, but safe.

But then everything changed. She began the difficult process of healing with the support of Freedom from Torture.

Now, she works for the very organisation that helped her. Ensuring more survivors get the support they need and shaping the the services that change the course of her life.

She says, "I don't know what I would have done without Freedom from Torture. Your money is helping people heal and rebuild their lives"

📢 Essential new paper by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture is crystal clear that it is NEVER OK to return people to a place where they face a real risk of torture.

Whatever the political pressures this is non-negotiable. The ban on torture is always absolute.

For someone seeking asylum, the opportunity to explain why they need protection can determine whether they're safe.

Today, changes to the asylum interview process came into force that could mean some people have fewer opportunities to do so.

Nadine didn't know where she'd end up. She just knew she had to flee.

Imagine having to leave everything behind. Your home, your family, your entire life - or be tortured because your government decided you no longer belonged.

Nadine eventually found safety in the UK, but the trauma didn't disappear when she arrived.

It was only with specialist therapy and support, that she was able to begin healing and rebuilding her life.

Now, she works for the very organisation that helped her. Ensuring more survivors get the support they need.

Help more survivors rebuild their lives. Donate today.

🥱 More of the same.

The Home Secretary remains the same, and torture survivors are still facing the consequences of hostile policies.

People who have survived torture deserve safety, dignity and support to rebuild their lives.

We'll keep fighting until that becomes a reality.

Currently, only 1 in 3 survivors who come to Freedom from Torture can access our support.

For Nadine, specialist therapy helped her heal, recover her voice and rebuild her life.

Today, as Head of Survivor Activism, she is helping other survivors do the same. But too many people are still waiting for the support they desperately need.

Her message is clear: Please donate today. 💙
