Happy UWC Day 2026 🥳

This year’s theme, Actions for Peace, Planet, People, reminds us that meaningful change begins with what we choose to do: how we show up for one another, how we care for our planet, and how we turn our values into action.

Across the UWC movement, students, alumni, and friends are taking action in countless ways. Together, these individual acts become part of something much bigger: a global community using education to bring people together.

Watch Faith’s UWC Day message and join us in turning words into action ✨

For People. For Planet. For Peace.

🌍 For all UWC members

Today, on 21 September, International Day of Peace, 🕊️ the UWC International Student Council is sharing a video inspired by the values at the heart of UWC.

UWC was created around a belief in the power of education to bring people together and build a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world. Today, we’re coming together as a movement to call for change.

Change for a world where wars, disasters, war crimes, and humanitarian emergencies are becoming so frequent that they risk becoming the norm.

You cannot change what you cannot see 🌱

This year, UWC established a shared environmental baseline across its schools and campuses – measuring carbon, energy and water consumption at movement level.

This is not about comparison.
It is about clarity.

Because we don’t just teach sustainability, we account for it – and accountability begins with honesty.

On 21 September, UWC communities around the world will come together to celebrate what connects us and the difference we can make when we choose to act.

Under this year's theme, “Action for Peace, Planet and People.”, UWC East Africa celebrates UWC Day as a reminder that building a better world starts with the choices we make today, choosing understanding over division, caring for our planet, and taking action to support the people and communities around us.

How much land does it take to feed one person for a year? 🌱

At UWC Changshu China, students explore this question through the 2000 m² Global Field – a model that makes food systems and land use visible and understandable.

Through fieldwork and discussion, they connect everyday choices to global systems.
This is systems thinking in practice.

Welcome firsties, and welcome back second years! 💙

You’re joining a community built on a simple idea: that education can bring people together across differences and help build a better world.

So as you begin your UWC journey, be curious about the people around you. Listen to perspectives different from your own. Challenge what you think you know, and let yourself be changed by what you learn.

Here are a few pictures of welcome ceremonies from around the movement.
