How can art help young people share the importance of greener spaces? 🌿🎨

As part of the North Paddington Project, we visited Westminster Academy to bring together air quality education and creativity, engaging students from Year 7 through to sixth form.

Through our ‘Pollution to Solution’ approach, Hannah from our School and Community team helped pupils explore how greening supports cleaner air, benefits our mental and physical health, and creates habitats for wildlife.

Taking inspiration from the Academy’s newly installed 60m ivy wall, students worked alongside artist Michelle Meola to develop drawings for a mural in the school grounds.

Their ideas explored how to inform and inspire others about why greening matters in London.
The workshop forms part of our work to connect practical school greening with environmental education, giving students opportunities to help shape and care for their shared spaces.

Keep an eye out as we share how their ideas take shape!

A sneak peak behind the creative process 🎨✨

Students at have been getting creative, designing murals that explore their thoughts and experiences around air pollution and the environment. 🌱

We loved hearing their ideas and seeing their designs start to come to life!

This forms part of our ongoing work with Westminster Academy to create a greener and more engaging school environment.

Another brilliant volunteering day completed! 🌱

As part of our partnership with GPE, volunteers joined us at Westminster Academy to build six raised beds that will support the school’s Food Technology classes and benefit the wider community.

Through our partnerships, volunteers have the opportunity to visit schools and estates across London, helping to rewild areas where access to green space is limited. These projects create lasting benefits for local communities while giving volunteers the chance to see the transformation firsthand, strengthen their teamwork and put their DIY skills into action!

This is just one part of our ongoing work with Westminster Academy. Through the North Paddington project, we will continue transforming and greening the school grounds, with students also getting involved in creating murals for the school.

A huge thank you to the GPE volunteers for their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the day. Keep an eye out for more updates as the project develops!

Three new planters for Beis Malka School in Hackney! 🌱

More than 15 volunteers from the London Borough of Hackney joined us to build planters, bringing plenty of energy and teamwork to the school grounds. It was a chance to work alongside colleagues in a different setting and create something the school community can enjoy.

One volunteer shared: “Delivering something tangible for others to enjoy also helped make the day special.”

The day was part of our Awards for All project, which is greening schools and community spaces across Camden, Hackney, City of London, Westminster & Islington with local people involved along the way.

A huge thank you to the Hackney Council team for all their hard work. We can’t wait to see how the planters grow and develop over the upcoming months! 💚
