The programme featured “Peter” (a pseudonym) sharing what happened when he was targeted for sextortion online as a teenager – and why he wants others to know they’re not alone and help is available.

Sextortion is a form of online blackmail. Offenders may threaten to share private sexual images or messages unless demands are met. It can feel overwhelming – but there are steps you can take to protect yourself and find support.

The segment also featured DS Danny Gavin from our Cybercrime Unit. As part of our sextortion intensification work, three people have been arrested in recent weeks in connection with sextortion and blackmail investigations. All remain under investigation.

If you’re being targeted:
✅ Stop contact and block the account
✅ Keep evidence (messages, usernames, any payment details)
✅ Report it to the police – you will be listened to and supported

🚨 If you are in immediate danger, always call 999.

If you’re under 18, tell a trusted adult straight away so they can help you report and get support.
