Connor Welsh, our Vice President, has been promoted from his previous role as Treasurer. Having almost managed to bankrupt the club last year, we thought the best way to honour his efforts was to give him a promotion! — whilst making absolutely sure he stays well away from the club finances.
Connor is a third-year Astrophysics student, so naturally he spends his days studying things far beyond his reach — which perhaps explains why he struggles to hit anything in front of him. Having been shooting since 2019, he is one of the club’s longest-standing shots and reckons he can hit a mighty 2 out of 100 clays.
As if studying the stars wasn’t enough to make Connor stand out, his unmistakable ginger hair means he’s pretty difficult to miss on the shooting ground. His ginger hair also comes with the usual advantages: standing out in a crowd, never needing a high-vis jacket, and providing the committee with a reliable source of natural lighting on nights out.
When he’s not looking up at the stars, Connor enjoys the great outdoors, a good trip to the pub, and, most importantly, beating Luke in competitions. His dislikes are somewhat predictable: losing to Luke, being broke, and coursework. We’re beginning to suspect there’s a connection between at least two of those.
Having also taken part in the infamous Wilder Fight Night last year, where he adopted title of “Mr Pair”, Connor is more than ready to take on the very important role of VP as well as any pairs in the sky. He’ll be helping guide the freshers through the club this year and showing them how it’s done — although with a shooting score of 2/100, perhaps they shouldn’t take all his advice. When it comes to drinks, Connor is a man of simple but refined tastes: a good rum.
Here’s to another year of competitions, pub trips, outdoor adventures and, most importantly, keeping Connor as far away from the bank account as possible.
