Thieves often target student properties due to the high number of valuable items. Don't give them an easy way in by leaving your doors unlocked.

🔑Make sure that you lock all external doors with the key, even when you are home, to reduce the risk of burglary 🔑

Register your valuables at www.immobilise.com - the national property register. This will improve your chances of having items returned to you, if they are stolen.

It may seem like a good idea to leave windows wide open all day in the hot weather 😎 but this can attract thieves, who often target student properties due to the high number of valuable items.

Opening the windows to ventilate your home is important to prevent mould and damp. Secure your UPVC window by only opening to the first stage locking point and ensure any window restrictors are always enabled. If you leave the room or the house, secure fully by locking the window with the key.

Speak to your accommodation provider if you are unsure about how to use the first stage locking point, or if window keys are missing.
