πŸ“ Alex Garrick-Wright has written us a blog post ahead of his Soup and a Show performance next week!

Alex is an award-winning comedy writer and performer. His new show, A Cabinet Of Comedy Curios, will debut as part of the Soup and a Show programme. It's a hilarious multi-media show of award-winning sketch comedy, about Shetland, Glasgow and ghosts.

"It’s been a fun process, a collaborative effort and new challenge combining different aspects of my work into one new, vibrant and silly bit of art. As to where it goes from there…who knows?" πŸ’¬

🏳️ Another year of Helen Robertson's beautiful flag flying at the Town Hall.

You can find out more about Remembering Together on our website: https://shetlandarts.org/project/remembering-together/

πŸ’ Today marks six years since the first Covid lockdown was eased on 29 May 2020.

Flying above Lerwick Town Hall today is a flag created as part of a Remembering Together Covid Community Memorial project with Shetland Arts and local content creators.

The flag was created by local artist Helen Robertson and depicts an image of her hand-knitted wire Shetland Lace Tree of Life, with a gold-leaf circle in the centre as a symbol of strength in tradition and community.

The flag represents a focus for the community to remember the pandemic and for people to reflect on their experiences of that time.

🎨 Alex Purbrick told us more about her project Giants in Da Simmer Dim, while taking a short break from assembling the 12ft puppets on Friday.

If you're over 18, physically fit and would like to walk like a Giant for a day, we'd love to hear from you! Alex is running a workshop on Sunday 7 June where you can learn how to become a giant pupper handler, ready for the carnival later this summer.πŸ‹οΈ

Giants dance in Da Simmer Dim is a celebration of Shetland folklore characters brought to life through puppetry, dance and music. Directed by Alex Purbrick, youth and adult groups have been busy creating two 12ft wearable Giant and Giantess puppets as well as two magical beasties for a carnival event along the St Ninian's tombolo on Sunday 28th June 2026.

πŸ‘‰ You can find out more about the workshop and book on our website: https://tickets.shetlandarts.org/sales/categories/workshops--classes/we-walk-as-giants-workshop
