TALL SHIP RACES 2026 ⚓

This year our trainees will undertake a once in a lifetime aboard Shetlands own Swan and Norwegian tall ship Sørlandet for an exciting race from Stavanger, crossing the Skagerrak to Aalborg in Denmark 🇳🇴⏩🇩🇰

We cannot wait to follow their adventure!

Sail Training Shetland's 2026 programme is underway, with the completion of its Sail Training Taster Days aboard Shetland's own Tall Ship, Swan LK243. 16 young people will go onto Sail Training International's Tall Ships Races in July 2026, sailing in Race 3 between Norway and Denmark

Our taster day sails ✅🌊⛵

We have welcomed aboard 27 trainees onboard The Swan. Many nervous trainees who all came out of their shells, met other trainees from all over Shetland.

We have had 3 knotsthons, 2 days at sea and endless cups of tea ☕.

We cannot thank this year's trainees enough for getting stuck in and have three absolutely brilliant days!!

Taster day sail number 2!⛵
So with sailing there comes unpredictability and with today's weather 🌬️ we stayed along side.

But this did not damper our trainees attitudes to get involved. ⛵💪

Though our charity is based on getting young people involved in sailing, what we offer is much more than just sailing. Today all our trainees worked as a team on tasks, learnt about swan and the tall ship races, made lunch, cleaned the ship, hoisted a sail, and got to know some new people. And hopefully got a glimpse into what life below deck on a voyage would be like.
