A huge congratulations to Beenie-Ann Wood, who has been awarded the 2026 Vevoe Trophy! ⛵️💙

Beenie-Ann was one of our Sail Training Shetland trainees this year, and we’re delighted to see her recognised for her contribution to life on board.

The Swan crew praised Beenie-Ann’s infectious personality, enthusiasm and supportive nature, as well as her willingness to get involved in every aspect of life on board.

"Being part of Tall Ships 2026 was an amazing adventure to be part of and one that I will never forget!
Sailing on Swan from Stavanger to Aalborg was an experience of a lifetime which let me meet new people and taught me sailing skills.
Having the privilege of being on the voyage let me experience the atmosphere of the Tall Ships Races and I would strongly encourage anyone who is thinking about applying to do so.
I would like to thank Sail training Shetland for their hard work making these opportunities happen."

"I am so grateful to have been a part of Tall Ships 2026.
Thanks to Sail Training Shetland I took part in leg three of the race from Stavanger to Aalborg aboard Sørlandet.
The experience was incredibly rewarding. By pushing myself out of my comfort zone I’ve learned so much about myself, gained confidence, and discovered a new passion for sailing which I had never tried before. I have met so many new people, and made lifelong friendships with people I never would have met if it wasn’t for this opportunity. I can’t think of a single person who wouldn’t benefit from taking part in the Tall Ships races. I encourage everyone to take part and give it their all to make the most of the experience, you won’t regret⛵"

"Tall Ships 2026 was an experience I’ll never forget. Sailing from Stavanger to Aalborg onboard the Sorlandet was an incredible adventure filled with amazing memories and new experiences.

Meeting so many new friends along the way. Spending days together onboard, working as a team made it so easy to create friendships and memories that I’ll take away with me.

It was so cool learning how a tall ship actually works. Getting to understand the masts, rigging and sails was something completely new for me, and it was amazing being able to get involved. And of course, sleeping in a hammock was an experience in itself!

A massive thank you to Sail Training Shetland for giving me this opportunity. Without them, I wouldn’t have had the chance to experience such an incredible journey, learn new skills and meet so many brilliant people."

" Tall Ships was an absolutely incredible thing to a part of, and I loved getting the privilege to be on such a beautiful vessel as Swan. It was a once in a lifetime experience and it really made me appreciate the opportunities given to young people in Shetland. It was a fantastic way to meet new people, learn new skills and see new places. This photo was taken while in anchorage with other B class ships which was a really lovely time for all of us, with lots of visiting and trading things between boats. I would totally recommend this adventure to anyone considering it as it was completely unforgettable and I would do it again in a heartbeat if given the chance. It felt like a great accomplishment when we arrived back in Lerwick. Knowing that I had sailed on Swan across the North Sea with the support and guidance of the brilliant crew felt incredible. A massive thank you to all the other trainees and adults who made it such a wonderful experience by being an awesome group of people. I’ve made some great friendships. From taking the helm to diving off the bow sprit to participating in the crew parade, I’ll always carry the most amazing memories from this trip.⛵"

“This year’s Tall Ship Races has been an exhilarating adventure. On the voyage from Stavanger to Aalborg I met many great people, learned how to tie knots, slept in a hammock and got to take the helm of the ship. One of my personal favourite moments was climbing the rigging at sea. I would urge anyone who is considering applying for the races to do so, as it is a truly phenomenal experience.”

Without a doubt this was a trip of a lifetime and I would definitely do it again if I got the chance!”
