It’s possible to turn your passion into a career, thanks to a Modern Apprenticeship - just ask Ellie! 😊

Ellie pursued her love of Shetland history through a Museum Galleries Technician Modern Apprenticeship, and is now Learning & Engagement Assistant at Shetland Museum and Archives.

Ellie had initially studied History at university, but soon realised the combination
of full-time study and work wasn’t for her.

A front-desk role at Shetland Museum and Archives proved to be the turning point. After her first summer at the museum, she was offered the opportunity to undertake the apprenticeship through Museums Galleries Scotland.

On completing her apprenticeship, Ellie was awarded the SVQ in Museum and Galleries Practice at SCQF Level 7, equivalent to a Higher National Certificate (HNC). 🙌

And she's now back at uni studying History part time!

Ellie has shown that there's no single route to a fulfilling career, and that gaining a qualification in the workplace can be every bit as transformative as a traditional academic path.
