Erin Harries Junior Jarl for 2027 and members of the Junior Jarl Squad gathered tonight, at the Peerie Galley Shed to commence the build of the Junior Galley for Up Helly Aa. This evening they worked together to start the base ๐Ÿงฐ ๐Ÿ“

Learning by doing, is a brilliant showcase of intergenerational work, in which volunteers pass on their skills and knowledge.

The galley will be built over the winter months. It will be displayed at numerous locations around Lerwick on Up Helly Aa day ๐Ÿ”ฅ

We also have a tea break for some biscuits and juice. Emme also made some cookies for everyone to enjoy ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿช

After a vote today we are delighted to confirm Erin Harries as Junior Jarl for the 2027 festival. The first time since the festival began in 1956, the role will be held by a girl in Shetland. Since 2023:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Girls have joined the junior procession
๐Ÿ”ฅ The festival offers a 50/50 split of participation in the procession
๐Ÿ”ฅ Ami Grains joined the Junior Up Helly Aa Band in 2026

Erinโ€™s election marks an important step for the festival and a proud moment for our community. We cannot wait to see her lead the 2027 celebrations.

We attended the maiden visit to Lerwick for The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collectionโ€™s Evrima. Junior Jarl Frankie Walterson exchanged plaques with the captain to welcome them to Lerwick alongside the formal plaque exchange from Lerwick Port Authority ๐Ÿ›ณ๏ธ
