If you are planning a trip to the National Records of Scotland in June, remember that there's an extra Bank Holiday (public holiday) this year.

I'm not sure, but I think this may affect other archives as well, so double-check the opening hours for 15 June 2026 if you are planning a research trip.

'The Society Resources - Glasgow & West of Scotland Family History Society' by Scott Fairie

Join us at the Scottish Indexes Conference on Saturday 15 March 2025 to learn about the Glasgow & West of Scotland Family History Society.

The Chair of GWSFHS introduces the Society, its history, some of the resources available
to members, and the sort of material which can be found at the Society’s research centre.

J. Scott Fairie, Chair of GWSFHS for the last 4 years, started an interest in family history as a teenager. His family is from the central belt of Scotland, with a few English and Irish links. He was involved for many years in the early years of the GWSFHS, and has edited a number of the Monumental inscription publications. A career in electronics in Europe and America interrupted his active involvement for more than 30 years. After retiring, it was possible to pick up this obsession, on the Council of the Society.
