✨Today, we hosted a special celebration to honour and thank our incredible volunteers✨

Following a beautiful and thoughtful Mass, everybody came together to enjoy some tea, sandwiches and cakes. ☕🍰

It was a lovely opportunity to reflect, connect and simply say thank you in person to those who give so much of their time, care and compassion to support others.

Moments like these remind us just how special our volunteer community truly is. Your kindness and commitment make a difference every single day, and we are so grateful to have you as part of our team! 🩵

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, some of our children enjoyed a mindful walk around their school grounds 🌿

Together, they slowed down and used their senses to notice the world around them – spotting birds 🐦‍⬛, butterflies 🦋 and flowers 🌼, listening to the wind and distant sounds, and exploring different textures like leaves and tree bark. 🌳

They also noticed everyday smells and sounds in a new way, reflecting on how these made them feel. 🍃

One child particularly enjoyed hugging a tree and listening to birdsong, sharing how it made them smile.

The children said the experience helped them feel “light and calm” and notice things they hadn’t before.

After the walk, they captured their thoughts through drawings and photographs, creating beautiful posters to reflect their calming moments 💛🌷

Last Wednesday, we were thrilled to have hosted our Good Shepherd’s Appeal 2026!

This initiative which has been running for over 100 years involves children and students from schools across our Diocese organising fundraising events to support our cause. 🩵🌟

At the event, hosted in Leeds Cathedral, representatives from each of the schools presented their raised funds to Bishop Marcus in joyful celebration.

These young people have played a crucial role in the difference our charity brings, showing incredible generosity, compassion and commitment to helping those in our community.

We are so proud of every student, teacher and school community involved in this year’s appeal.

Thank you for your continued support 🩵💙⭐️

We’re so proud of the incredible young people from St Thomas a Becket for their support of the Good Shepherd Appeal. 👏

Thank you for your generosity and commitment to helping those across our community. 💙🩵

Today our students, Olivia, Lucy, Amelia and Jacob attended the Good Shepherd Celebration at Leeds Cathedral.

The Good Shepherd Appeal is an initiative run by, and for, Catholic Care, a charity which works to support those in need in the diocese of Leeds. It has been organised every Lent for over 100 years, with schools from across the diocese now organising a wide range of fundraising events.

Our students proudly chatted to Bishop Marcus about the fundraising activities that have been taking place within school and presented him with a cheque for our funds.

It was wonderful to be part of such a special occasion, seeing young people coming together in faith, song and community spirit to support such an important cause.

April was Autism Awareness Month - check out what our Oakdene house got up to! 💙

A day was spent getting creative and hunting down anything blue they could find. 📘🦕🥣🚙🩵🫐

There were lots of smiles, laughter and teamwork along the way! 👏

After lunch, two tenants enjoyed a lovely walk to the local pub (about a mile and a half each way!) for a well-earned coke. Even though the pub is called The White Bear, for one day only it was proudly renamed ‘The Bluebell Inn’ to keep the blue spirit going!

✨ Be there from the very beginning ✨

This is more than a job - it’s your chance to help build something from day one.

At Steps for Tomorrow, we’re opening a new children’s home in Wakefield and looking for passionate Senior Residential Childcare Workers to join us on that journey.

📍 Location: Wakefield
💼 Salary: £31,068 – £32,639 + sleep-ins
📅 Closing Date: 22nd May 2026

What makes this different?
You won’t be stepping into an already established home - you’ll help create it.

🗓️ Start date: July 2026
🏡 Children move in: August 2026

You’ll benefit from a full month of induction and development before opening, giving you the time and support to:
✔️ Build a strong, connected team
✔️ Understand our values and approach
✔️ Feel confident and prepared

At Steps for Tomorrow, we believe children move through life - not services. Our role is to make that journey safer, stronger and full of possibility.

In this role, you will:
✨Support and guide the team
✨Help maintain high standards of care
✨Work closely with the Registered Manager
✨Create a home that feels safe, nurturing, and structured

We’re looking for people who:
💙 Genuinely care about children
💙 Understand behaviour as communication
💙 Bring calm, consistency, and compassion
💙 Want to learn, grow, and be part of a supportive team

Why join us?
✔️ Strong, visible leadership
✔️ Ongoing training and development
✔️ Real opportunities to progress as we grow
✔️ A chance to be part of something bigger

There’s something special about being there at the beginning - helping shape a home and knowing you made it a safe place for children.
