You can visit the beautiful gardens at Gargrave Open Gardens on the weekend of 13th – 14th June, from 11.00am – 5.00pm.

This annual event gives you a chance to explore around 30 gardens and enjoy the spaces, along with live music, artists-in-residence, quirky containers, and all-day refreshments.

The event has been going on since the 1970s and for the last 17 years has been organised by Duncan and Bee Faulkner on behalf of St Andrew's Church, Gargrave. The proceeds are kindly shared between Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice and Martin House Hospice 💙

"We chose our local hospices to be our long-term partner charities as they are significant to our whole community. They have touched the lives of many of us through loss of a spouse, parent, friend, child or grandchild," said Duncan and Bee.

Entrance is £6 per ticket in advance or £8 on the day. Book online at https://gargraveopengardenscom.wordpress.com/

"I've said 570 tonnes because it's symbolic, one tonne for every year of Nicola's life. It's a huge ask, but so was everything Nicola went through. This is my way of honouring her."

James is taking on an extraordinary physical challenge in memory of his partner Nicola. On 26th June, which would have been Nicola's 57th birthday, James will attempt to lift, press and pull 570 tonnes in 24 hours at his local gym, Flacks Fit 24. He is dedicating every kilogram lifted to the woman he describes as "quiet, caring, sarcastic in the best way, and the person who changed my life."

Nicola was diagnosed with melanoma in 2023, and over the following two years, her illness progressed. As her condition worsened, she wanted to remain at home, and Sue Ryder Nurses cared for her there in her final days, giving her the comfort and dignity she wished for.

James hopes his challenge will not only raise money for Sue Ryder, but also spark conversations that many people avoid: "People don't like talking about death, wills, or what they want at the end of their life. They think that if they talk about it, they're somehow tempting fate.

"But you're not. You're making life easier for the people you love. If sharing what we went through helps even one family talk about things earlier, or understand what support is out there, then it's worth every rep."

Thank you so much for your support, James, and good luck with your epic challenge 💙

James has already raised more than £9,000 towards his ambitious £15,000 target. You can support his efforts at https://lnkd.in/eGR-gvi7

This week is Volunteers’ Week - an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.

We want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of our incredible volunteers 💙

Our volunteers work across our shops and healthcare centres in a range of roles. Without their dedication and support, we wouldn’t be able to provide our expert care. So again, thank you, volunteers- we literally couldn’t do this without you!

We want to say a huge thank you to Alistair Shand from the Keighley News, who is retiring at the end of May.

Alistair has worked there for 42 years and, during that time, has shared many articles about Sue Ryder and our work, and has worked hard to promote our fundraising events. He is also a regular participant in our running events and a friendly face when our team are out and about in Keighley.

Alistair shares, “I am hugely proud to have been part of the Keighley News, serving the town and wider area, for most of my journalistic career. Naturally, I’ve seen many changes during 42 years at the newspaper. But one constant has been the high regard in which Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice is held by the community.

“Through reporting on fundraising events and activities - so many with personal stories attached about the incredible care provided by the hospice team – I’ve been consistently reminded, were a reminder needed, of just how much Manorlands means to the people of the area and further afield.

“It’s been an absolute privilege to play a role in helping to promote the wonderful, compassionate services offered by the hospice and the Sue Ryder charity.”

Thank you for all your support over the years, Alistair, and we hope you enjoy your well-earned retirement 💙

Cheers to over 550 people who took part in the Wharfedale Pub Walk this May – you have raised over £20,000 to support our care!

Despite the grizzly Yorkshire weather, our walkers took on the 10-mile ramble, visiting 10 pubs in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, as well as the volunteer bake sale and BBQ that our Wharfedale fundraising group kindly hosted 🍻

Adam Brunskill, Regional Fundraising Team Manager, said, "I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part and made this our biggest pub walk yet. Despite a bit of rain, it didn't dampen the spirits of everyone who took part.

"A special thank you goes to our event sponsors Bulloughs Cleaning Services and Bunton's Plant Hire, as well as our amazing Wharfedale Fundraising Group. Without their incredible support, this event wouldn't be possible."

We hope everyone had a fantastic day, and thank you so much for your support 💙
