Black History Month 🖤✊🏿

This October we’re celebrating the Black trailblazers who shaped rugby league, and the next generation following in their footsteps 🦁

⚡ Martin Offiah MBE: nicknamed “Chariots”, he became one of the greatest finishers the game has ever seen. He scored more than 500 career tries and is now in the Rugby League Hall of Fame.

👑 Lisa McIntosh: a Yorkshire pioneer who played for Dudley Hill, Bradford and Halifax and captained the Great Britain Lionesses on three tours. She’s believed to be the first Black woman to captain a Great Britain team in any sport, and in 2022 she became one of the first three people inducted into the Women’s Rugby League Hall of Fame.

Their courage opened doors for players like ours. Every week across Keighley and Bradford, our young people pull on a shirt in a game that belongs to all of them 💛❤️

Here’s to the legends, and to the ones still writing history 🙌🏿

Meet the team 👋

We're delighted to welcome AJ Wallace to Community Lions Foundation as a Coach! 🦁

AJ is a Jamaica international second-row forward who currently plays in the Super League for Toulouse Olympique. Born in Huddersfield, he played football before switching to rugby league and coming through the Leeds Rhinos youth system.

He has since played for Bradford Bulls, making over 40 appearances, and for Hull KR, with spells at Featherstone, Whitehaven, Doncaster and Sheffield. He then earned a permanent Super League contract with Toulouse for 2026. Internationally, AJ made his Jamaica debut at the 2021 Rugby League World Cup and is still part of the Reggae Warriors squad 🇯🇲

Now he's bringing that experience to our sessions across Keighley and Bradford to inspire the next generation, both on and off the pitch.

🍝 Fun fact: AJ's pre-match meal is spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread!

Welcome to the pride, AJ! 💛❤️

This National Inclusion Week, we're celebrating the players who make our club what it is.
Every young person steps onto our pitch from a different walk of life, but together, their diverse stories create the ultimate team.
Everyone belongs on our pitch. Want to join us? Get in touch.

💪🦁 THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUNG PEOPLE LEAD.
Our fitness programme isn't designed by us. It's designed by them.
Every session. Every drill. Every idea. Our young people are in the driving seat — and that's exactly why it works.
When young people have ownership over their health and wellbeing, something special happens. They don't just show up — they bring their friends. They don't just participate — they come back.
That's why we see the numbers we do. That's why our sessions are packed. That's why this community keeps growing. 🔥

📰 We've made the news!

The Telegraph & Argus has featured St Bede's & St Joseph's Catholic College after they made rugby league history — winning the RFL Champion Schools title for the THIRD consecutive year, beating Liberty Academy Hull 50-4 at Castleford Tigers' Stadium.

What makes this story special? 99% of these girls had never played, or even watched, rugby league before the Community Lions Foundation brought it to them.

Now they're being talked about in the same breath as the greatest school sports programmes in the country. 🦁

Massive congratulations to our three superstars Farida Mak, Fearne Simpson and Tashana McCusker on their incredible pathway selections! Farida, Fearne Leeds Rhinos Development Pathway & Tashana Bradford Bulls Pathway

Proudly driven and developed from absolute beginners by the Community Lions Foundation while Farida and Tashana started with no prior rugby league experience and Fearne had just a little we have proudly coached, nurtured, and developed these students every step of the way to reach an elite level.

Representing St Bede's, these incredible players have also helped crown the school national champions three years running as the best rugby league team in the country!

As the driving force behind the scenes, the Community Lions Foundation brings these vital partnerships together to get the absolute best out of every child. Through a powerful network uniting St Bede's with special credit to Dan Toronczak and Heather Broadley, Phil Jones (National Player Development Manager at The Rugby Football League), Jo Simpson (Coach of the Girls' team at West Bowling), and Leeds Rhinos scouts like Warren Broadley (Team Manager & Talent ID Co‑ordinator - Elite Women), we create a unified ecosystem.

A huge thank you to the parents for believing in their children and supporting them every step of the way! When everyone collaborates around a young person, they get the crucial stability they need to develop, grow, and successfully transition to the next level in rugby league.

It’s not just about winning titles it’s about creating a real social return. These girls now have a direct road ahead toward the Women’s Super League, Yorkshire, and one day wearing the England rugby league shirt.

This is the power of community, collaboration, and rugby league changing lives.
