There's something magical about the summer solstice.

The sun hangs high in the sky all day, only slipping below the horizon late, late in the evening. It feels like anything is possible on that night.

And surprisingly, one thing that's still possible is booking a place on our Summer Solstice Sunset Walk this weekend.

It's usually sold out by now, so we can only assume people have been waiting to see what the weather would do. Well, the forecast is looking glorious, so now's your chance.

Run, don't walk, to book your tickets (just £3, which goes towards moorland conservation).

and click "Check availability".

Don't forget to take a torch as what goes up (to see a sunset), must come down (in the dark)

🌍💚 It's World Peatlands Day! 💚🌍

Today we're celebrating the world's peatlands – incredible habitats that quietly do one of the biggest jobs in the fight against climate change.

Did you know that peatlands store twice as much carbon as all the world's forests combined? 🌱🌳

Even more remarkably, research suggests that tiny microalgae living within peat bogs could help capture even more carbon as temperatures rise, potentially offsetting up to 14% of future CO₂ emissions through photosynthesis.

That's why it's so important to keep peat where it belongs – in the ground, supporting wildlife, locking away carbon, and helping to tackle climate change. 🌿

Unfortunately, peat extraction for gardening and horticulture continues to damage these precious landscapes. The Wildlife Trusts estimate that peat extraction has released 31 million tonnes of CO₂ since 1990.

To help protect special peatland landscapes like Marsden Moor and support a peat-free future, please add your name to the petition to end peat sales. ✍️

Climate resilience is what our Landscapes for Water project is all about - and nothing shows this like this gorgeous little oak sapling.

One of the trees that suffered in April 2025's moorland fire, it has rallied - and its green leaves are a sign of hope that not all of those that burned have been lost.

This little one is one of several that have survived. They - and those we are replacing - will be nurtured so they still get to be a part of the new woodlands and our hope for a more resilient moor.

🔧🪛⚙️Are you a practical person who's good with their hands?

We’re looking for a maintenance volunteer to join our team and help keep our vehicles, tools and specialist equipment in great condition, supporting our team with essential peatland restoration work.

You’d carry out equipment checks, support basic maintenance and repairs, and help ensure everything is safe, organised, and ready to use. Your contribution would play a vital part in keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly and preventing issues before they impact work on the ground.

🥾💪This role is ideal if you’re practical, safety-conscious, enjoy problem-solving and are confident using and maintaining machinery.
📆Commitment: Ideally once a week (flexible on the day)
