With the weekend’s friendly matches coming up for Mexborough Cricket Club, we would like to say good luck to the teams and a big thank you for choosing Project Youth Cancer as the partner charity again this year.

We’d also like to send our very best wishes to the club as they work to raise funds to replace equipment damaged by Storm Dave last week. Members spent much of the Easter weekend trying to salvage what they could, but sadly items including the batting cage and covers were damaged beyond repair. If you’re able to support their fundraising in any way, we know it would be hugely appreciated (see Mexborough Cricket Club page for details).

We are looking forward to the season and hope to see some familiar faces at matches throughout the Summer 🏏

Lynni is one of our amazing Project Youth Cancer therapists 💛

Working with young people at St James’s Hospital in Leeds, she offers gentle massage to help relax the body, lift mood and promote general wellbeing.

We’re so proud to have Lynni as part of the PYC family and we know her visit this week will have brought a little sunshine to the ward ☀️

Teenagers and young adults with cancer have their own unique needs, but too often they’re navigating healthcare systems designed for children or older adults.

Being diagnosed with cancer as a teenager or young adult comes at a time when the future starts to take shape… and then everything changes.

At a time when life should be about independence, friendships, education and big plans for the future, cancer turns everything upside down.

And speaking up for what you need? That’s not always easy, especially when you’re navigating something this overwhelming. But being heard matters. That’s why advocacy matters.

This Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month, we’re proud to stand alongside 22 incredible charities, all working towards one shared goal:
👉 making sure young people’s voices are heard
👉 and that young people with cancer get the specialist care and support they deserve.

Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing stories from young people and shining a light on the brilliant work happening across the TYA cancer community 💛

Love isn’t always hearts and roses.
Sometimes it’s a well-timed message that says, “thinking of you”, a lift to an appointment or sitting quietly beside someone who’s had a hard day.

Today we’re thinking about every kind of love, the friends, families and supporters who help young people facing cancer feel less alone.
Thank you for being part of that 💛

However you’re spending this Valentine’s Day, be kind to yourself and others.

💛

Like many small charities, much of what we do at Project Youth Cancer is powered by kindness, people giving their time, energy and care simply because they want young people facing cancer to feel supported.

We’re incredibly grateful to our supporters, volunteers, partners and fundraisers.
Your generosity helps us continue supporting teenagers and young adults with cancer, not just physically, but emotionally too.

Thank you for standing alongside us and with young people when they need it most.

We are talking about HUGS today 🤗 And we have very good reason as it is National Hug Day (or National Hugging Day)!

At Project Youth Cancer we support the mental wellbeing of young cancer patients and we are passionate about improving mental wellbeing for everybody. And that a simple hug can work wonders for your mental well-being?

And here's why:
🤗 Boosts Mood: Hugs release oxytocin, aka the "love hormone," which reduces stress and promotes feelings of happiness and calm.
🤗 Reduces Stress: A warm embrace lowers levels of cortisol (stress hormone) in your body, helping you feel more relaxed and grounded.
🤗 Strengthens Bonds: Hugs create a sense of trust and connection, deepening relationships and fostering emotional support.
🤗 Good for Your Heart: Literally! Hugs can help lower blood pressure and promote heart health.
🤗 Instant Pick-Me-Up: Whether you're having a tough day or celebrating a win, a hug offers comfort and emotional uplift.

So go ahead, give someone a hug today (with consent, of course 💛)

💛 💛

This Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, we’re encouraging everyone to listen to their body and keep up to date with cervical screening when invited. Screening helps detect changes early, before cancer develops, and is one of the best ways to protect your health.

Getting to know what’s normal for you makes it easier to spot changes that may need checking.

Common symptoms of cervical cancer can include:
• heavier periods than usual
• bleeding between periods, after s*x, or after menopause
• unusual or unpleasant-smelling vaginal discharge
• pain or discomfort during s*x
• urine infections that keep coming back
• pain in the lower tummy or lower back

Most changes won’t be a sign of cancer, but if something doesn’t feel right, lasts longer than usual, or keeps coming back, trust yourself and speak to your GP.

As we step into a new year, we wanted to start just as we mean to go on, by putting wellbeing first.

The start of a new year can bring reflection, hope, pressure, excitement, uncertainty… or all of the above. However you’re feeling, please know that it’s okay to take things at your own pace. There’s no rush to have everything figured out.

For young people facing cancer and for all of us, wellbeing matters. Looking after our mental and emotional health is just as important as looking after our physical health.

Today, take a moment to pause. Slow down. Focus on your breathing. Step outside if you can. Be kind to yourself. Small, gentle steps really do count.

Our Patient Hub includes free guided breathing and mindfulness exercises, suitable for everyone - https://projectyouthcancer.org/patient-hub/relax/

Thank you for continuing to support teenagers and young adults with cancer, through treatment and beyond 💛

We’d like to say an enormous thank you to our Patron, Catherine Tate, for her incredible generosity and kindness. Not only did Catherine donate two sets of tickets to Sleeping Beauty at the London Palladium for the charity to auction (some of the best seats in the house, no less) she also went out of her way to meet the auction winners during the shows, making the experience truly unforgettable.

Panto at the London Palladium is always special and this year marks 10 years of magic on that iconic stage. What a way to celebrate!

Pictures include auction winners Sallie and Donna, along with their guests meeting Catherine.

We hope both Sallie and Donna, along with their guests, had the most wonderful time!

There are some changes being made at Project Youth Cancer to help ensure we can continue supporting the young people who rely on our services.

In 2026, we will be streamlining our services and reshaping the way we work to safeguard the charity’s future. Our core mental health and wellbeing support will remain unchanged, but our team will be smaller during this transition and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Your support remains as vital as ever. Together, we can ensure that young people facing cancer continue to receive the help and care they deserve. Thank you.
