HELP IMPROVE OUR VILLAGE

We’re putting together a list of all the little things around Netherton that need fixing - so we can take it to the council and get them to take action.

If you’ve got 5 mins on your next walk, could you please help survey your road?

We’re looking for:
- Potholes in the road or pavement
- Street lights not working, or doors broken/held on with cable ties
- Blocked drains
- Overgrown bushes blocking paths or signs
- Road signs that need cleaning, are falling off, or dodgy signs attached to concrete lampposts

All we need from you:
- What the issue is
- The what3words location

Just pop them in the comments below or DM us if you prefer.

Our roads and paths deserve to be safe for our kids, grandparents, buggies, bikes and cars. The more of us who chip in, the louder our voice is with the council.

We’ll collate everything and hand it over personally. Let’s show we care about our village ❤️

Thank you so much - every pothole logged makes a difference!

P.S. Not sure how what3words works? Just download the app - it’s free and more accurate than a postcode/ helps the council find it fast. Open the app, stand at the spot, and it’ll give you 3 simple words.

The 2027 Tour de France is passing through our village.

Wouldn’t it be ace if we could organise a community event, put up some flags and bunting, organise some food stalls, etc and cheer them on.

We are thrilled to announce that Kirklees is set to host the Tour de France Femmes in July 2027!

On Friday 30 July 2027, the opening stage will travel from Leeds into Kirklees, when the peloton will pass through more than 50 miles of our area!

Our towns and countryside will be seen by millions of viewers around the world while celebrating world-class women’s sport and inspiring future generations.

More details will be shared closer to the event. For now, save the date and get ready to welcome the world to Kirklees!

Work on the village noticeboard is underway. Can’t wait to see it all done and dusted. It’ll look great!!

Netherton Fruit Orchards.

We managed to go to the orchards next to the schools/ football pitch and replaced some stolen canes, hammered in the existing canes and replaced some of the fastenings.

I’m guessing it will be a few years before we get any fruit from them but they’ve got buds on them.

Need to do the same with the Marten Drive and Roslyn orchards but it’s a job for another day.

Volunteers welcome.

Please sign our petition and email your councillors and ask them for their help to make this a reality.

The Meltham Greenway extension would enhance connectivity, promote eco-friendly travel, boost health and wellbeing and increase the number of visitors in our local community. It would also preserve our local heritage and provide an accessible route for all, fostering community unity and a healthier environment.

Almost 17yrs ago residents of Netherton, Meltham, and South Crosland were promised a Greenway, that connects Meltham to Netherton and South Crosland and beyond.   We, the undersigned, are calling for the extension of the Meltham Greenway woodland cycle path and walk way, following the historic....
