A big thank you to everyone who came along to our recent barbecue at the White Horse.

With our meetings taking a summer break during August, It was lovely to have an opportunity to get together, enjoy some good food and spend a relaxed lunchtime catching up with friends and fellow members.

A special thank you, once again, to Simon and Beth for laying on such a lovely barbecue for us. It was much appreciated and they certainly know how to put on a good spread!

Thanks again to everyone who came along and helped to make it such a pleasant occasion. Regular meetings resume again this month. Hope to see you soon.

Tonight there is a change to our published program and we are delighted to welcome back a familiar face. Bill McNaught will be talking tonight about a local gem, Brighton‘s Volks Railway,

So come along to Manning Heath Village Hall. As usual, doors open at 7:15 pm for a 7:30 pm start. Refreshments will be available and non-members are welcome just £4 cash on the door. We look forward to seeing you later.

Alan and Michele were delighted to be invited to speak at the first Community Heritage open day last week held by West Sussex Record Office. This was an opportunity for local heritage organisations to come together to discuss their projects, aims, concerns and to share success stories.

Alan was up first and spoke about the ongoing work on the ‘Big Book of Nuthurst’. He explained that we felt it was the easiest way to make an archive of the whole Parish.

Following Alan’s great presentation, Michele explained to the delegates our Facebook marketing strategies how it works for us and offer a few pointers to others who are waiting to take the plunge.

It was a great day and wonderful to meet so many others who are just as passionate about preserving our local history.

If you have never been, the West Sussex Records Office is well worth a visit, whether you are researching a particular subject or are just curious and browsing. See their website for further details.

Fantastic talk by Chris Horlock last night about the mods and rockers in Brighton, it certainly seemed to stir up a few memories!

History was actually made last night as the hottest meeting we’ve ever had! 🥵. Alan and John gave into the weather and got their knees out! However, Chris, arguably always one of our best turned out speakers, still looked dapper in a shirt and tie.

Thank you Chris for a most enjoyable talk and for keeping the bar high with your own presentation! 👔

If you have taken a trip to the seaside during this hot weather, hopefully you haven’t encountered a scene like this!

Tonight’s talk is from of our regulars, Chris Horlock titled, ‘The Rise of the Mods and Rockers’.

Should be a great evening and may even evoke some bank holiday memories.

So polish your winklepickers, rev up the Lambretta and get yourself down to Mannings Heath Village Hall for 7.15pm.

Non members welcome, just £4.00 cash on the door. Refreshments will be available.

Tonight we look forward to welcoming our speaker Ron Bates, vice-chair of Horsham Society. He will be talking about some of the lost pubs of Horsham. So come along to Mannings Heath Village Hall for a pub crawl around some of Horsham‘s lost public houses. 🍺

Doors open at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start. Non members are welcome, just £4 cash on the door. Teas and coffees, as always, will be available.

Pictures feature some of the watering holes in the Parish for whom time has been permanently called.

Thank you Kevin Newman for a great talk last month. Kevin is a well known Sussex historian and keen writer on the subject. His talk was a light hearted look at what the county has given and been gifted! Kevin has a fond connection with the parish as for a while he taught at St Andrews school!

This month we look forward to welcoming Ron Bates who will be talking to us about some of the Horsham pubs that have now permanently shut their doors.

Come along on Wednesday, 25 March to Mannings Heath Village Hall for ‘Last Orders Revisited’. Doors open at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the AGM last month. The team were very sorry to say goodbye to Ruby and Tony from the committee. However, they don’t get away that easily and have promised to still help out when time allows.

Thank you, Ruby and Tony, for many years hard work between you to make this society what it is today.

Don’t forget tonight’s talk is a return visit from Renowned Sussex historian, Kevin Newman. He will be giving us his talk entitled, ‘Giving and Receiving in Sussex’. Doors open at 7.15pm for a 7:30 pm start.

Subs are now due for this year, So if you haven’t already paid, don’t forget to bring along your cheque-book or cash.
