The first textbook dedicated entirely to group B Strep is now available.

Group B Strep is a leading cause of severe infection in newborn babies, yet awareness and understanding remain too low.

That's why we're so pleased to see the publication of Group B Streptococcus in Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Neonatal Period; the first textbook focused entirely on group B Strep.

Bringing together the latest evidence, expert clinical knowledge and the experiences of families affected by group B Strep, it is an important new resource for everyone involved in maternity, neonatal and newborn care.

Better understanding leads to better prevention, better care and, ultimately, better outcomes for babies and families.

For many families affected by group B Strep, neonatal nurses become part of their story – caring not only for babies, but also for the parents and families who love them. 💕

Elsie's family experienced this first-hand. Born prematurely, Elsie spent 65 days in NICU before coming home. Then, at just 10 weeks old, she was readmitted with late-onset group B Strep sepsis and meningitis. Thanks to the care she received, Elsie went on to make a full recovery.

This International Neonatal Nurses Day, we're saying a heartfelt thank you to neonatal nurses everywhere. Whether caring for babies born too soon, babies fighting infection, or supporting families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives, your skill, kindness and dedication make an enormous difference.

The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) is recruiting for several expert roles, including a data scientist, health economist, public health specialist and a patient and public voice representative.

The UK NSC reviews the evidence and advises ministers and the NHS on screening programmes. Its work has an important impact on national screening policy, including issues that matter to families affected by group B Strep.

At just four weeks old, Molly noticed that something wasn't right with her daughter, Sissy. She became inconsolable, developed pale, mottled skin and had a blank stare.

Trusting her instincts, Molly called 111 and sought urgent medical help. In hospital, tests confirmed Sissy had developed late-onset group B Strep meningitis and sepsis.

Thankfully, after three days of intubation and two weeks of antibiotic treatment, Sissy made a full recovery and is now a happy, healthy little girl. But like many parents, Molly had never been told about group B Strep before her daughter became unwell.

While her instincts helped her recognise that something was wrong, awareness should never be left to chance. Today, Molly is sharing her family's experience to help more parents learn about group B Strep before they find themselves in a similar situation. Thank you so much for your support 💕

This , we're sharing a question we're often asked: does breastfeeding increase a baby's risk of group B Strep infection?

The good news is that breastfeeding has not been shown to increase the risk of GBS infection in babies.

If you're given IV antibiotics during labour to help protect your baby from GBS, these are safe while breastfeeding, though always be sure to let your healthcare team know if you do plan to breastfeed 💕

Whether babies are breastfed, formula fed or combination fed, every family deserves clear, accurate information and support.

We're delighted that GBSS Chief Executive Jane Plumb and Advocacy & Information Manager Oliver Plumb have both been invited to attend the Readiness for Group B Streptococcus Maternal Immunisation Symposium, taking place next month in Aarhus, Denmark. The symposium aims to support readiness for future maternal group B Strep vaccines and strengthen collaboration across Europe.

As part of the programme, Jane has been invited to join the panel discussion, "Next Steps for GBS Across Europe", providing an important opportunity to ensure the experiences of families affected by group B Strep are represented in discussions about the future of prevention, awareness and care.

We're also proud to have contributed a series of lived experience videos, developed in partnership with Group B Strep International, which will be shown during the symposium. By sharing the voices of parents and families, these stories help keep the real-life impact of group B Strep at the heart of conversations around research, policy and prevention.
