A really unusual National Trust place in Surrey - 20 miles of river navigation, running from Godalmin Open on Wed/Sun

River Wey Navigations is a 20 mile mix of river and canal, created in 1650 to serve the agricultural and industrial are of west Surrey and provide an easy means of transporting goods to the London markets. It remained a commercially viable transport system until the 1960s when it was donated to the Trust. There is a visitor centre at Dapdune Wharf, open Thursday to Monday and a full events programme. Shalford Mill a wonderful hidden gem, in the quiet backwater of Shalford sitting across the Tillingbourne stream. The building has remained almost unaltered since ceasing operations in 1914. Although the water wheel no longer functions, you can trace the journey of grain around the mill until it was bagged up and carted off to the bakers. There are regular guided tours of this well preserved early 18th century water mill as well as many fun events for children.

Your little artist can bring their spooky creations to life.

We now have a seat beside the new path on the Island at Dapdune Wharf. It's carved in the shape of the Wey barge Hope and is opposite the genuine full size barge Reliance.

Today is the Astolat Model Railway Club open day at Dapdune Wharf, between 11am - 5pm
See their displays in our Barge Shed and Carbide Store buildings. Train and transport books will be available in our bookshop on site.

Thanks to the dedication of the St Catherine's Volunteer Group and the generosity of everyone who donated to our Raft a Wey fundraising efforts, the steps at the beginning of the Railway Line Walk have now been successfully replaced. The new steps will help keep this route safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone who uses it.

When you visit the bookshop at Dapdune Wharf this week you can browse our Jane Austen display inspired by the Sense and Sensibility film which features in the new adaptation.

Amphibians can stay a little hidden at this time of year but this beautiful frog hopped out of the leaf litter by the creek at Dapdune the other day. One of our lengthsmen has also seen a great crested newt near Shalford which is a welcome sighting of a rare species.

Boat trips at Dapdune Wharf are continuing through September and October on our electric launch Dapdune Belle, from Thursday to Monday. The trips take about 40 minutes, and leave at 11am, 11.50am, 12.40pm, 2pm, 2.50pm and 3.40pm. There is a maximum of 12 people plus the skipper. You can book the whole boat, or individual tickets.

A date for your diary coming up in October.
Saturday 10 October will be the Astolat Model Railway Circle autumn Open Day at Dapdune Wharf.
Come and see their layouts, have a go and learn how they are built and operated. Bring your own OO/HO or N locomotives to run. We will also have a good selection of trains, railways and transport books out in our second hand bookshop. Entry is free but usual parking charges apply to non National Trust members.

There is a NEW Wharf Weenies session starting this Friday at Dapdune Wharf in Guildford.

In the Music and Rhyme Time Wharf Weenies we will learn songs and rhymes which will help with language development. Some weeks we may make a musical craft to take home. The session will finish with a simple story.
Suitable for children aged up to 4 years. Adult and one child £8, additional child £4

The regular Wharf Weenies sessions will also be continuing until early December,. Immerse yourself in the outdoor setting with songs, stories and time to explore and play in the natural environment. Get mixing in the mud kitchen, and make crafts from natural resources and go wildlife spotting.
