It was a great opportunity to relax, enjoy excellent company, and strengthen the friendships that make our Squadron such a positive environment.

🏆🏆 261 IS BEST SQUADRON IN SURREY 🏆🏆

At our recent Awards Night, 261 (Guildford) Squadron were crowned Best Squadron in Surrey Wing.

261 Sqn has been one of the largest and most active units within Surrey Wing for many years, and often have represented the Wing at Regional and National competitions. Their most recent success was winning the Morris Trophy for runner-up in the National Best Squadron Competition. Something they hope to match or better this year as they now go on to represent Surrey Wing to see who will be the Best Squadron in London & SE Region.

Today marks the 85th Anniversary of the formation of the Air Training Corps.

Created out of the Air Defence Cadet Corps, the ATC was initially formed in the second world war for teenage boys to learn skills that supplied better-trained and experienced RAF recruits, many becoming aircrew. Now the ATC is open to young men and women, with a focus on creating good citizens and leaders for all walks of life.

The subjects covered have changed a lot in 85 years, morse code has gone and been replaced with cyber; but many still stay the same especially around flying and gliding.

If you were a cadet in Surrey Wing, or are a current cadet or volunteer - please share your greatest memories of being a cadet.

🌄 Wing shooting camp - Sennybridge, Wales 🎯🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Recently, five of our cadets took part in the very first wing shooting camp held at Sennybridge in Wales - the first event of its kind! The camp was a fantastic opportunity for cadets to develop their marksmanship skills, learn from experienced instructors, and challenge themselves in a new environment.

A special congratulations goes to Cpl H-L, who was awarded best effort for her outstanding commitment and enthusiasm towards shooting over the past year 👏

It was an incredible experience for everyone involved, and we’re proud to say this looks set to become a yearly event!

🏅 AFI Night – celebrating success at Guildford Squadron! ✈️

261 Squadron proudly held its Annual Formal Inspection - an evening that brought together cadets, families, staff, and distinguished guests to celebrate the achievements of the past year.

Cadets took part in a formal parade, showcasing the skills, confidence, and discipline they’ve developed – from immaculate drill and dress to leadership, teamwork, and aviation knowledge. It was a true reflection of their hard work and growth.

We were honoured to welcome the Mayor of Guildford to the event, who joined us in recognising the dedication and accomplishments of our cadets.

We were also very lucky to have Brigadier (Retd) Roger Hood QVRM TD DL as our Reviewing Officer. As a Deputy Lord Lieutenant, he was representing His Majesty the King at this ceremonial occasion. His presence underscored the significance of the evening, and we are incredibly grateful for his support and recognition of our cadets’ achievements.

The evening also featured a special awards presentation, celebrating those who have gone above and beyond throughout the year. A huge congratulations to all the deserving recipients!

We also marked an important transition as we welcomed our new Commanding Officer. At the same time, we offered our sincere thanks to our outgoing Squadron Leader for their dedication, leadership, and tireless support of the cadets and the Squadron. Your impact has been lasting, and your service deeply appreciated by all at 261.

Thank you to all the families and supporters who attended. Your encouragement plays a vital role in what we do. And to our cadets - your passion, progress, and professionalism made the entire Squadron proud. 💙

🎉 VICTORY AT SURREY WING FIELD DAY! 🎉

On an action-packed day at the iconic Brooklands Museum, cadets from across Surrey Wing came together to compete for the prestigious Brooklands Trophy - and 261 came out on top! 🏆

We’re proud to announce:

🥇 1st Place Overall - Winners of the Brooklands Trophy!
🥈 2nd Place - Banner Drill
🥇 1st Place - First Aid Team

This incredible performance means we’re heading to the regional finals in:
✅ Foot Drill (won in July)
✅ Banner Drill
✅ First Aid

A massive well done to every cadet who took part 💪 And thank you to Brooklands Museum for hosting such a fantastic day and to all the other squadrons for a great competition 🙂

✈️ Up, up, and away!

Last weekend, cadets from 261 headed to RAF Kenley for an exciting day of **gliding** – with one cadet taking to the skies for the very first time! 🌤️

It was a fantastic experience for all involved, combining ground training with the thrill of silent flight. From learning about glider controls to experiencing the incredible views from above, our cadets made the most of the opportunity and showed great enthusiasm throughout the day.

A huge thank you to the team at RAF Kenley for making this possible and supporting our cadets' aviation journeys.
