Award-winning Gosport car dealer launches charity campaign with £25 donation from every car sold

Gosport residents asked to choose charity beneficiary
£25 from every car sold to be donated
Thousands of pounds available for local good causes
Nominations open until June 30

A Gosport car dealership is inviting local residents to choose which charity will receive thousands of pounds in donations over the next six months.
Clever Car Collection, based at Basepoint Business Centre on Aerodrome Road, has launched a community campaign which will see the business donate £25 from every retail vehicle it sells between July 1 and Christmas Eve to a Gosport-based charity.

Rather than selecting the beneficiary itself, the dealership is asking members of the public to nominate charities via its social media channels, with the organisation receiving the most valid nominations becoming its official charity partner.

The campaign is expected to generate more than £2,000 in donations based on the company's average monthly sales.

Founder James Baggott said the initiative was designed to give something back to the local community which has supported the business since it launched.

He said: "We're proud to be a Gosport-based business and have long wanted to help raise money for local charities.

"There are several organisations in the local area doing fantastic work for the community and we want to help support them.

"Even though I volunteer for GAFIRS, the local lifeboat service and would love to support them, we felt it was important that the choice was made by local people.

"We're really looking forward to seeing which charities are nominated and hearing the stories behind why they matter so much to residents."

The nomination process is open now and closes on June 30.

Residents can nominate a charity by tagging a Gosport-based registered charity in the comments on Clever Car Collection's Facebook, Instagram or TikTok posts promoting the campaign.

Once nominations close, the dealership will count all valid nominations received across its social media channels before announcing the winning charity.

Clever Car Collection has become one of Gosport's fastest-growing independent dealerships since opening and has earned a number of industry accolades.

The business has been recognised as Highly Rated for its customer service by Autotrader for two consecutive years, is a Carwow Top Rated Dealer and has won multiple awards for its innovative use of artificial intelligence within the automotive industry.

Baggott, who is also editor-in-chief of Car Dealer Magazine, also based in Gosport, said he hoped the initiative would shine a spotlight on some of the many charities working across the borough.

He added: "Whether it's supporting vulnerable people, helping young people, caring for animals or providing essential local services, charities play a huge role in making Gosport a better place to live.

"We hope this campaign not only raises money but also helps raise awareness of the incredible work being carried out every day by local volunteers and charitable organisations."

Nominations close on June 30, with the successful charity being announced shortly afterwards.

Well done to our youth volunteers who earned Volunteer of the Month.

Having something to work towards is an excellent way to gain a sense of achievement and encourage young people to work towards their full potential.

Our update:

It was an overcast, muggy morning. We started early, and did pretty well, considering the weather conditions.
Only one pot containing a tomato had been blown over.

Today we have:
- transplanted the cucumbers into their bed and made reservoirs, to hopefully keep them well hydrated;
- weeded the raised beds;
- planted our carrots out into a raised beds;
- weeded around the apple tree;
- thinned out some of the radishes;
- cut back some of the raspberry, bay and brambles from the footpath.

The rhubarb and strawberries, both in the poly tunnel and outside, are producing fruit. All of the fruit bushes and trees have fruit clearly visible now, and finally, the runner beans have started to flower! They really needed weeding again, but we decided to leave well alone, now they are starting to look better.

The onions, leeks and radishes are all looking good.

Thank you Liam and Jason, and to Colin, who popped by and got roped in 😆

Our mid-week update:

A visit to the allotment was made with bated breath this morning following the gales.
Thankfully everything is absolutely fine. The onions, leeks and outside produce are really enjoying the rain.
The cucumbers are now enormous! And we’ll certainly have flowers very soon. They enjoyed a good water.

Our update:

It was a warm, cloudy morning on Sunday, but there was a nice breeze.

We started early and have achieved almost all of our goals.
Today we have:
- strimmed more of the plot;
- weeded all of the raised beds and large beds and around the raised beds;
- watered, and re-watered everything;
- moved the table and chairs slightly;
- planted the cherry tomatoes into bigger pots;
- brought out all of the peas and tomatoes from the poly tunnel and tied them. Hopefully with the forecast being rain, they will enjoy their time outside;
- planted the remaining runner beans;
- tidied the walkways and swept;
- weeded and tidied the rhubarb.

There are lots of cherries on the tree; the strawberries are almost ready for their first picking. The corn is magnificent (we’ve never planted this before), the radishes are doing well, as are the onions, leeks, potatoes, tomatoes, peas and cucumbers.

Next week we will plant the cucumbers - we just ran out of time and energy to do it today!

Our grateful appreciation to all those that help to fund our community allotment including:

Thank you to Emily, who is a Trainee Counsellor, for taking the time to do a Wellbeing Session for our young people today. This encouraged them to remember what aids relaxation and enables them to remain calm; ensuring they know how to safeguard their mental health in this busy world.
