Times are hard for everyone at the moment, so we don't like to ask, but times are hard for us too because our costs are rising at the same time as demand for our service, so we urgently need help if we're to rise to the challenges presented by the impact of the US/Iran war.

Please help if you can via the link below, and share/repost so we can reach as many kind people as possible. Thank you.

Dig and Donate kindly provide food for EFA and next Saturday between 10.00am and 4.00pm it's their community volunteer day. They're inviting family or friends to come along (kids welcome too) for a couple of hours to help out. If people bring a packed lunch they'll be providing cakes and refreshments. Sounds like fun!

It’s Earth Day today, celebrated around the world in over 192 countries by over a billion people, all taking action to protect our planet through environmental change. There’s a lot going on - everything from conferences and street marches to art displays, beach clean-ups and action to prevent food waste, the latter being something that we do every day, and here’s an example of what we did yesterday, gleaning at Martinsfield Farm. With help from our volunteers and staff, and from our friends at Nando’s, Princesshay, we left with 22 crates of beautiful purple sprouting broccoli, weighing 168kg!

PART-TIME ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT VACANCY
We’re keen to recruit an administration assistant to join our award-winning charity. We have a paid workforce of 1 full-time and 2 part-time members of staff, and a large team of 65 dedicated volunteers. The administrative assistant will work with our manager, Wendy Kearns, to support staff and volunteers in day-to-day operations at our warehouse on Marsh Barton in Exeter, although it will also be possible by arrangement to work some of the time from home. More information on our website here: https://exeterfoodaction.org.uk/administration-assistant-vacancy/

Fourteen years ago today, in 2012, Europe's oldest intact book, the 8th century St. Cuthbert Gospel, was bought by the British Library for 9 million pounds. Sadly, we missed that one, which would have covered our annual running costs for about 90 years.

So, we still need good condition ordnance survey maps, CDs and books (of a similar value if possible). Just drop them off at either of the locations below (preferably Rosebarn Lane) and Ellen, who’s already turned around 9,000 of them into an incredible £4550, will work her magic on them, every penny of which will go towards our work getting rescued food to the many people who need it.
Thank you.

Triggered by the conflict in the Middle East, as the cost-of-living bites once again, with rising costs for energy and food, this week we took to BBC Spotlight’s sofa to explain what it means for us. Just as for everyone else, it means that costs are increasing, at a time when many people are already struggling to get food on their tables and are now likely to find it that little bit harder. We didn’t have long, just four minutes in fact, but we did what we could to share our story, which is that we’ll be doing our level best, as we always do, to ensure that nobody ever has to go hungry, or choose between eating and heating. Thank you to everyone who supports our work. We couldn't do what we do without you!

The Spring 2026 issue of our newsletter, Food Matters, is now available to view or download via the link below. With the uncertainly of further increases in the cost of living due to the war in the Middle East, this issue features several pages of potentially useful information for people struggling with rising energy and food costs, and much else besides. Feel free to share it with anyone who might be interested in our work.

A big thank you to all of the wonderful supporters, volunteers and staff who played a part last year in enabling us to provide an amazing 114,651 kilograms of 'rescued' food to community groups in Exeter and all across Devon. Between all 70 of them, every week they got all that good, nutritious food, that might otherwise have gone to waste, to 1,000s of people who needed it.

As well as umpteen elephants, house bricks, shipping containers and concrete mixers, 114,651 kilograms of food is also equivalent to an incredible 272,979 meals, which we simply couldn't have done without you. Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who played a part in this year's Food Waste Action Week. We had quite a haul, receiving donated food equivalent to around 1,500 meals which, by now, will have found its way onto the tables of the many people struggling with food insecurity in Exeter and across Devon. Thank you all! 🍎

This year’s April Fools Day japes are likely to raise fewer chuckles than usual because it’s the day that household budgets were squeezed yet further by across the board increases in the costs of council tax, energy, water, TV licences, stamps, broadband and mobile phones, in what’s been dubbed as ‘Awful April’.

For the estimated 7.3 million adults (14% of households), experiencing food insecurity, it will be a particularly challenging time. Many consumer groups, however, are offering advice on cutting costs and we’ve rounded up a few ways to cushion the blow, such as switching to cheaper providers and checking eligibility for council tax relief etc.
