In April 2026 we issued a statement in connection with a number of our Members acting in a manner which was not consistent with British Pig Association policies and codes of conduct, which were designed and put in place to ensure that the BPA can continue to be an inclusive organisation, where members are treated with fairness and compassion.

After a number of months of detailed review and consideration, final sanctions have been imposed on a number of individuals.

The BPA does not conduct reviews in public and respects the privacy of those individuals involved, so will not disclose or discuss any specific matters on individual incidents or the process undertaken. Nor will we comment on any messages shared online.

After taking suitable legal advice, the BPA is confident that all issues have been properly dealt with in accordance with our constitution and governance, and that we’ve done what we can to protect the membership as a whole.

At the heart of what we do is a shared love of Pedigree Pigs and our commitment to protect their heritage and help conserve them for future generations.

We’re looking forward to a bright future, for us and for our pigs and thank you for your commitment to the association and its values.

African swine fever (ASF) is a real threat – together we can stop it.

ASF affects all pigs, including wild boar, and is often fatal. It’s spreading in parts of Europe, Asia and Africa, so vigilance matters.

It’s also a notifiable disease. If you suspect ASF in England, you must report it to Defra on 03000 200 301. Failing to report is an offence.

National Pig Awards Pedigree Pig Farmer of the Year
We’re doing the Pedigree Sector awards a little differently this year. We’re combining last year’s categories into an overall winner award based on the combined criteria of the previous awards.
The award is for registered BPA pedigree breeders, and the judges will be looking for their significant contribution to pedigree pig meat marketing, demonstrating the importance of sustainable use to long term conservation, breed conservation including safeguarding genetic diversity, and broader work undertaken for the benefit of the sector as a whole, including the Eat It To Save it message.
The Award will also be given a further prestigious uplift by being judged by the main panel along with all of the commercial categories.

Following our earlier post sharing the sad news of the passing of Peter Reeder of the Lopham Herd, we have now confirmed that Peter’s funeral will take place on Thursday 21 May at 2pm at South Lopham Church.

Thank you to everyone who shared such kind messages and memories following our previous announcement. Peter will be greatly missed by many in the pig breeding community.
