Today is World Mental Health Day.

Sometimes you can tell when someone isn’t quite themselves. Sometimes you can’t.

A quick “How are you?” can mean more than you realise. So can checking in with a friend, making time for a chat, or simply letting someone know you’re there.

Mental health is something we all have, and looking after it matters - not just today, but every day.

Take a moment to check in with yourself and the people around you.

The UCAS deadline for 2027 applications for UK veterinary medicine programmes is Thursday October 15th at 6pm.

If you are interested in studying veterinary medicine at SRUC School of Veterinary Medicine & Biosciences on the BVSci Veterinary Science programme, you will need to submit the UCAS application by the deadline and upload your supporting documents to the SRUC website no later than Thursday October 22nd.

“Returning to education after more than a decade completely changed my career.”
For Samantha Mein, going back to university as a mature student has helped turn her passion for nature into a career.

Having graduated with a BSc (Hons) Wildlife and Conservation Management from our Edinburgh campus Samantha is now in her second season as a Seasonal Field Ecologist, carrying out bat surveys across Scotland.

Samantha said: “I’ve gained so many new ecological skills and made some fantastic connections throughout my time at SRUC, which have really helped me take the next steps in my career.”

“Don’t be discouraged whether you do or don’t come from a farming background.”

Growing up on her family’s hill-based beef and sheep farm on the Isle of Islay, Morven Brown was involved in all aspects of farm life from an early age.

Her long-term ambition is to manage her own agricultural business, using the skills and knowledge she has gained through her studies and industry experience.

Morven said: “I chose to study at Barony Campus because I liked the idea of being able to study on a rural campus based on a working farm. This course is for everyone. There is such a diverse range of modules that everyone can learn something and take something valuable from it.”
