In 2021, Foundation Scotland joined IVAR’s Open & Trusting grantmaking initiative, a sector-wide commitment to reduce the unnecessary burdens that charities and community groups often face when applying for and managing funding.

The initiative encourages funders to adopt simpler, more proportionate processes; to communicate clearly and transparently, and to build relationships grounded in trust rather than compliance.

This report sets out how Foundation Scotland has progressed, where we have encountered challenges, why Open & Trusting matters to Foundation Scotland, and what Open & Trusting looks like in practice.
