Deaf Action

Deaf Action Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity that supports and celebrates deaf people. Since 1835. Deaf Action is a charity supporting and celebrating deaf people.

We were established in 1835 and work with deaf people across Scotland and the South of England. Our work is geared towards empowering all deaf people to achieve their potential and fully participate in society, with equality of rights, access and opportunity. We have been at the forefront of progress and positive change within the deaf community for over 185 years, and we are very proud to be a de

af-led organisation. Almost half of our staff are deaf, and many more have grown up with deaf parents or siblings. We truly understand the challenges deaf people face, and believe that our collective experience allows us to honestly position ourselves as experts in unlocking deaf people’s potential.

Our Digital Inclusion Officer, Suzie, attended the Wellbeing Provider Networking session at Leith Job Centre this week πŸ‘‹

The session aimed to give staff and work coaches an insight into the service and the support we can provide deaf and hard of hearing clients. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet staff and to share the work that we do and the impact we have on those we support.

Our Digital Skills Service covers a range of topics, including skills specific to employment access within the workplace. We have weekly drop-in's as well as Digital Inclusion workshops. If you would like to know more about the service and how it can help you, visit our website!

During Deaf Awareness Week, our CEO, Philip Gerrard, was proud to attend the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Deaf Academy alongside leaders from across the deaf sector ❀️

It was a special opportunity to celebrate two centuries of deaf education, community and progress, and to meet Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal during such an important milestone event.

Congratulations to everyone at the Deaf Academy on this remarkable achievement and for hosting an inspiring day centred around deaf young people, deaf culture and the future of deaf education πŸ˜€

We were delighted to welcome the Ride For Heathlands team to Deaf Action today as they make their way from John O’Groats to Land’s End on their fundraising cycle 🚴

The team, made up of fathers whose children attend Heathlands, are raising money for a new sports hall for the school. They stopped by our Albany Street building for lunch, a well-earned break, and the chance to meet staff and supporters along the way 😍

A special thank you to Rhona for making homemade brownies for the team before they got back on the road! πŸͺ

What an amazing effort for a fantastic cause ⭐
