Founded by Colleen Paige in 2004 after she adopted her first dog at age 10, this day celebrates dogs' companionship, loyalty and bravery while raising awareness of puppy mills, animal cruelty and the many dogs needing homes.
- About 100,000 dogs are in UK shelters/rescues at any one time (numbers vary).
- Approx. 6-10% of direct owner surrenders are due to the pet's illness, chronic injury or unaffordable veterinary care
- Around 20% of owners have had to relinquish a dog in recent years.
- Dogs typically stay in shelters about 93 days before adoption.
- Typical adoption fees are ~£200 (covers neutering, microchipping and vaccinations) — far cheaper than breeder prices of £700–£4,000+.

Today is . It was founded in America by The Association of Feline Practitioners in 2009, it was created to encourage cat owners to bring their cats in for an annual health check - routine examinations that update vaccinations, screen for dental disease, obesity, kidney issues and other age-related conditions, and help catch problems early before they become serious. Regular visits also give vets a chance to advise on nutrition, parasite prevention and behaviour, improving cats long-term health and quality of life.

🐾 We are at the Stowmarket Carnival today and tomorrow! 🎡
